White represents snow and white nights of the Finnish summer, blue represents lakes and the sky. The cross represents christianity(is it spelled Christianity or christianity?).
Note that shapes of flags such as Finland's or Norwey's aren't centered but positionned slightly on the left because of their naval use: when floating in the wind they appear symetric.

The US flag has been done before, so I'll do California's.
The star is a homage to the Texas Republic so that we can pretend we were a real country like Texas. The words "California Republic" come from the puppet state that existed for a month or so after US settlers revolted. The grizzly is there cuz they're cool and used to actually live in California.
It's the same flag the California "Republic" used in 1846.
