Somewhat predictably, an annual thread.

Well, 2022 was a quiet year for me, yet also a year of putting in work for the future. Hopefully 2023 will be far better.
Highlight probably is the publication of a first printed book for the online lit seminar courses I run.

But what about you? :)

- Earned enough to pay income tax finally
- Lost ~30 pounds
- Got my gallbladder removed
- Tried a couple different antidepressants (to no avail, but I tried)
- Started living alone
- Furnished a guest room and bought a TV
- Managed to travel to Seattle
- Managed to get Christmas gifts for everyone
- Started and subsequently lost a relationship (I consider this an achievement for... reasons)
- Mustered enough courage to let someone fly across the world to stay with me for two weeks
- Slept next to someone else (I used to be very phobic of trying to sleep next to another person)
- Met a CFCer and traveled to a part of the city I've never been to
- Dramatically expanded my music horizons; music is now far more enjoyable to listen to and is easier to attach emotion to
- Got hired by an agency as a proofreader
- Helped a friend finish their novel revision, and encouraged them through the querying process; they are now agented!
- Started talking more to several editing peers/"friends" in a private setting
- Mustered enough courage to play online games with people again (another thing I had become very phobic of)
- Wrote poetry for the first time
- Very poorly learned how to sing, and sang for someone for the first time
- Was read to by someone (my parents never did this, so I went 28 years without having ever been read to)
- Got to enjoy physical touch that wasn't purely clinical (an unfortunate reality of my 20s, where almost all human contact was doctors/medical professionals)
- Spent extended time with cats for the first time
- Survived a horrible, terrible mental health downswing early in the year that almost ended badly
- Significantly reduced my binge eating, and made it so relapses don't last nearly as long as they did before
- Changed my web host and saved something like 75% on my yearly upkeep
- Showed someone some of the media that shaped me or that I found meaningful for the first time

Hey, you know what? Thanks for this thread. Writing everything out really forced me to recognize this year as being my most significant yet. It doesn't feel that way, at all, but the logic doesn't lie.

Yes, I knew it would be the thread for you :D

Well, I don’t know where to start…

- Started a better paying job with benefits
- Bought myself a new gaming PC
- Gotten into a libertarian phase for a while
- Kind of slowly re-emerging out of my shell, socially.

nothing in conjectural engineering but ı irritate a lot of people with F-24 stories .

- Dramatically expanded my music horizons; music is now far more enjoyable to listen to and is easier to attach emotion to

Sometimes you just need to find the right music to tap into your emotions. :yup:

It's sad that your parents didn't read to you. I had parents and grandparents for that, but even though they decided to teach me to read for myself (I was 4 at the time), my grandmother still read to me. One of my favorite memories is sitting on her bed in my grandparents' part of the house, eating cornstarch pudding, while she read to me (we got through Anne of Green Gables and Singing Wheels). Sometimes we'd just sit and sing out of an old songbook she had.

You should definitely spend extended time with cats. :yup:

My achievements... three more NaNoWriMo competitions completed. I reconnected with an old SCA friend from 36 years ago. It's actually been a very quiet year, as I've been focused on writing and trying to keep my glucose levels from rollercoastering (it's been better this past month, after a really bad patch earlier this year).

Dragged myself one full year closer to my eventual demise.

the same as last year . Should not be achievement or something .

According to Spotify, I've spent 61,171 minutes listening to music this year. 2,040 songs, played by 838 artists, in 99 genres. I think their grasp of the word genre is dubious. I doubt I listened to 99 discrete genres. "You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means."

According to Letterboxd, I've watched 82 movies this year. They don't give me total runtime or genres or anything like that. Maybe if I upgraded to a "Pro" account, which I was thinking about doing for '23.

Other than that, not a ton. :dunno:

Well, after watching the first episode of Merlin (fortunately it's available on Amazon Prime Video), I achieved getting hooked on a "new" series.

And then Maddy achieved jumping on my keyboard and now I have to search for it again. She's getting very good at screwing up what I'm doing online. I'm just thankful she never did it during my NaNo sessions.

Congrats @Synobun

Looking at my resolutions from last year https://forums.civfanatics.com/threads/new-years-resolutions-2022.674773/:
- Down to 85, maybe 80 kg: Currently at 82 ✔️
- Increase my weights in the gym: That worked, now nearly 110 kg squat, and 130 kg deadlift ✔️
- Find a new job: ✔️
- Finish the work of the old job: Still not :/
- Go on 2 dates: Only 1 :/
- Finish my list of places in Southern France to visit: ✔️ that worked well. I saw many great places and lots of history.

Something which should have been included:
- move, and find a new apartment: That worked out great ✔️
- first time in my life that I bought my own furniture. Now I feel more like an adult TBH

Other things:
- I went with my ex-girlfriend to the French Alps, and had an amazing time. Ice diving was great, being in a dog sled was nice, and sitting outside in a whirlpool at freezing temperatures while seeing the mountains is also amazing
- keeping up with friends: That worked out great too ✔️
- I went to a demonstration, which was on the plan for last year, but had not worked out then
- saw a heavy metal concert in a Roman arena. That was kick-ass
- we migrated CFC to a new server and the forum to a new version. Major headache, but worked too
- I flew to Spain to see friends who I've not seen for a long time, and I had 3 times friends over at my place in France

Things which I wish had not been achieved:
- My ex broke up with me

I didn't even mention the 37,581 minutes of podcasts.
Well, if we're counting hours doing online stuff, I'm approaching 350 hours of playing Artists of Fortune.

I have also learned to play Senet.

Congrats @Synobun

Re: the migration: You designed a beautiful theme that benefits those of us with vision issues. :yup:

I began the year on dialysis and the determination to not let it disrupt my life any more than necessary. Stayed active even on dialysis days, going for walks after I'd had a little breakfast and recovered. Worked as full as schedule as I could (36 hours) and used dialysis time to read or do online classes. Got a kidney transplant in June, so that was nice. Admittedly, that was the surgeons' achievement, not mine, but I'd like to think that my careful observance of CKD dietary restrictions and regular exercise helped me recover quickly, because I was walking back and forth to my checkups within a couple of weeks. I've been adding IT certifications -- training for the CompTia+, and in the mean time doing courses in Coursera on Google Workspace and Office 365 administration, plus cloud basics for Google Cloud and Azure. Read 163 books so far. Got serious with a woman for a few months and when I realized it had no future, I was able to let it go without any emotional turbulence -- unlike a rough period in my life a few years ago. I'd like to say that means I'm getting more emotionally mature, but I suspect the reason is I just didn't like this woman as seriously as I liked the other one. I was very pro-active socially and took the lead on creating a men's book club and am currently working with a woman in town to create a community newsletter to share events across facebook silos, since certain groups only know what's happening in their respective social scene.
