While intelligence isn't a false concept, it is a ridiculously appropriated one, by all kinds of goons. Eg celebrities, comedians, politicians, and probably more than half of the general public as well. It also serves for many a petty antagonism and self-important charades.

Even looking at the few US talk-show hosts/cis talk show hosts i know, you have the following who evidently regard their poor self as very intelligent, while they aren't:

-Colbert
-Maher
-that right-wing blonde whatshername. Cutler?
-a pleiad of lesser known alt-right and mainstream 'left' peoples
god forbid, but i suppose even Seth Meyers and O'Reilly think themselves intelligent

I think while it's likely not the expressed intent, the way we traditionally define "intelligence" is somewhat in line with what is "useful to make raw scientific progress". That is of course biased against other form of "useful things that some brains are better at than others", but to say it is not a useful concept, or that it does not exist, is just false.

People assume Asians are good at math

A stereotype that always bothered me. I outperformed EVERY single Asian in my high school in math. Not a single one above me. I can't say the same nationally, but at least in my school I was best at math. And my AP classes had quite a few Asians in it, so it was a good number of people I outperformed.

Potential is greatly overrated.

Also very true. I lacked motivation and confidence, so I never really did much in life. But I'm happy with what I make.

1) How/why differences in intelligence could exist as a driver of natural selection

2) How/why that driver would be present in certain population groups but not in others

It's all well and good to say having the cognitive faculties to recognize which berries will kill you and which won't, or to plan intricate hunting ambushes/traps would help ensure those individuals would survive and stay nourished enough to survive to adulthood, procreate, and ensure the child progresses stably into adulthood. But I don't see how such a selective pressure would apply in Europe and not in China or Subsaharan Africa or the Amazon.

I believe certain populations hit some genetic bottlenecks and some may have been forced into inbreeding until the population got large enough. The simple fact is people in different parts of the world faced different an unique challenges.

Yeah, but see, the onus would be on you to explain, specifically, why higher cognitive faculties wouldn't be beneficial to certain of those different and unique challenges.

It does mean 'broad-shouldered' as far as i know (though i haven't read the source on it myself...). I also heard it claimed he looked good in his youth, again haven't read any source on that.
