Obviously, being raped is bad mkay.(by which I mean physically forced or under threat of physically force made to have sex)
Just as obviously, if an authority is demanding sexual favors and it at least looks like your career depends on it, that is pretty bad, as well. Not as bad as being raped, but it still sucks quite a bit.
And then there are situations, where nothing bad happens as such, but it is scary as frack. Like when you are alone in a dark alley and suddenly a stranger comes forth and wanks in your face.I mean as a dude I don't think this would traumatize me, more like give me a good laugh in retrospect. But I am willing to accept that it can be terrible for a woman.
And then to me there seems to be a ton of sexual assault which isn't fine, but which also doesn't really matter,. Say an unwanted slap on the ass, or an unwanted hand on the knee paired with sexual comments. Those things can be unpleasant sure, but if you are grown up person - AND if it is not by a person you depend on with your career or something like that - it is not that big of a deal, methinks. It may be an appropriate thing to puke about to your friend, but not a thing of any public concern. Everyone deserves to be a bit of a dick without public Crucifixion and that is one of those things, IMO.
Now tell me why I am a misogynist :)

Hey, at least Terx is honest about how he doesn't get it. In some ways thats refreshing compared to the bitter and sulky attitudes of those in denial that our societies have a problem.

Terx: Pretty much all those "small" actions contain the threat that the perpetrator could do more.

Some people don't mind being robbed while others do. You should probably trust people when they say they find these crimes upsetting and not tell them to simply avoid getting upset.

Is this a Terx drunk thread?

Sexual harassment is much more about making someone feel small and helpless than it is about sex. Harvey Weinstein claims to be a sex addict. If that were true he'd have also been targeting the aged and the ugly. But he limited his advances to the young and the beautiful...to make them feel worthless and to thereby build up his own ego.

Ask yourself this, if you know your butt slap or your hand on the knee is unwanted, why are you doing it?

Like Terx, I too cannot feel, cannot even imagine what it feels like, to be one of these victims. But I ave seen the effect on these victims, and it ain't pretty.

The words I really want to say would get me infracted.

Dunno if you read the serial threads much, but I had a situation happen back in July, when another tenant in my building took a friendly but neutral conversation in the lobby as an invitation to come here 12 hours later, push my door open, and insist that "I'm here for massages."

The cop that investigated did a subpar job, as far as I'm concerned. No charges were laid, and they let him get away with lying, even though they know damn well he did worse than this to another woman in this neighborhood (her case actually went to court). He's still living in this building, and the owners don't have grounds to evict him unless he breaks a rule of the management company that runs this place. Even with after-hours security only a phone call away, I'm hyper-vigilant about every noise outside my door, and I don't feel completely safe outside my own suite while he's here in this building.

There have been other incidents in my life where I felt threatened. The nephew of one of my dad's girlfriends, for instance, kept trying to get me alone during a wiener roast at a local campground, and it was crystal-clear to me what his intentions were; that was over 35 years ago, during my first year of college, and it still scares me that it even occurred to him that this would be an acceptable thing. My dad was drunk at the time, so he never even noticed anything going on, and if I'd ever told him his reaction would have been one of two things: He might have accused me of lying, or if he believed me, his next action would have been to get his rifle out.

So even though my situations haven't been anywhere near as bad as things that I know have happened to others (one was a friend, the other a classmate who was raped over a 3-year period by one of the science teachers at our school; he was finally charged and jailed 40 years later), my answer to the bolded above is this: Yes, it does matter, and no, men don't deserve to be a "dick" without Crucifixion.

It's assault, it creates fear & repulsion. Sex is supposed to be a sacred thing. I'd rather be hit in the face than held up against a wall by someone who repulsed me and forcibly groped. Do you really have to ask? Maybe do a stint in prison & maybe you'll understand. :shake:

Imagine you're a sheep in a herd of other sheep, and then suddenly, one of the other sheep takes of their mask and reveals to you that they're actually a wolf, grins you in the face for a moment, then puts the mask back on and vanishes into the crowd. Even though he didn't violate you physically, you've just lost your sense of security, knowing that what should be a herd of other sheep who won't harm you, contains at least one wolf that might, in the future do things worse to you than to flash their wolf face in front of you.

The significance of sexual assault explained for dummies.

I think not having people slap each other is a public concern. I think most members of the public would prefer to live in a society where slapping did not occur.

Oh for the love of god

The problem is with the use of the world assault which you are unnecessarily adopting from the PC nutjobs. Nowadays anything can be classified as an attack in order to impose the PC agenda. Its not the way of expansion of knowledge but the way of controlling people and their actions. Many of these things like slap on ass are often not an assault as well as not unwanted.
That being said I dont want to be an unrenegate unprogressive barbarian and I will say we need to diminish violence as much as posible but you cant have your cake and eat it too. Only we have to stop being hypocrites about it. If you realy want to stop violence you have to stop imposing your will on others which is just a subtle form of violence. Intolerance is one such an example and what is political corretness if not masked form of intolerance?

Last but not least human nature isnt so simple:
