What, in all of your opinions, is the greatest act of kindness you could do?

After answering the above, tell what the greatest act of kindness you have ever done is.

Kindness leaves no lasting mark
Save in the souls of the rescued.

Seriously, I don't know. I don't rate my acts of kindness. I just help where I can, because there's way too much crap and misery in the world.

No matter how much kind acts you do, there will be twice as many bad ones to replace your one good act!

Perfection, it doesn't count when YOU are the one you love.
And why not? I think I'm entitled to love as much as anyone else.

People, would you please actually answer the questions? Or are you just trying to spam up this reasonable thread and make a mod close it like the last two?

Well I think the greatest act of kindness I've done was give an old man a seat next to his old wife. I was sitting on a fairly crowded subway when this old couple come in. The man lets his wife have the only avaliable seat next to me so while she's sitting down, he's standing up. So I thought "Hey why don't I give my seat to him?" so I give my seat to the old man so he can be with his wife. They thanked me. And when they were getting off the train they thanked me again. I thought "That's great that I gave that couple just a few more minutes of being together before one of them kicks the bucket."

Recognizing someone else's need and acting on it to the best of your ability is a great kindness. The best acts of kindness are the ones you forget and the recipient remembers.

That does not include trying to meet the "perceived" sexual needs of every teenage girl who strikes your fancy. :mischief:

Hmmmm....

I can say that i gained more when i gave something out.
taking care of elderly ppl.
donating blood
care for my family (not really kindness izzit ?)
taking care of girls (i wish i can give more than that)
Took in 2 kittens :)
never harm anyone intentionally

What is the greatest act of kindness that you have ever done?

Being born, thus bestowing such a magnificent example of Celtic manhood to this poor little world.

:)

I saved stranger from drowning.

It wasn't very hard. All I had to do was take my foot off his head.

Well, I'm not a man for great acts of kindness. But I help people whenever I can.

Someone mentioned giving away a seat for an old man. I do that almost every day.
Covering a swedish girl with a towel when she threw up on a ferry ride (I gave her a bottle of water too). All the others were just staring at her - poor girl.
Listen and comfort people in agony.

Little things like that.

:)

The 'greatest act of kindness' is hard to point out.

I think the greatest 'acts' of kindness that I have done is what I don't do. I never ridicule or embarres anyone for my personal gain. Like if a friend of mine does something stupid like vomiting all over a woman at a party, and I witnessed it, it would definantly make a good story. But if it's likely that he would have preferred I kept it too myself I would. Not many in my group of friends would do that, pass on an opurtunity to tell a funny story and make people laugh.

I never picked on anyone during school, either. I always tried to be nice to the unpopular ones, something I have been told later made a difference to them.

Oh, and I give a generous amount to charity every month.

I used to see a student sitting on his own every day and made a point of just saying, "Hi. How are you?" when I passed.

Later he wrote that the only person who stopped him committing suicide was the long haired teacher, he didnt know, who just used to say hi....

Wow, Col. I'm impressed.
Such a tiny gesture from your side can mean so much to others.

I guess that's the difficulty of the question in the thread; acts of kindness are judged solely by the receiver of kindness, not the givver. So I don't know what was experienced as the kindest thing I've done. It's not up to me to decide.

As you can tell, it made a big impact on me. Small acts of kindness can indeed have a huge effect.

Once at a party i was someones driver, he went inside and i was just waiting outside considering driveing over to the gas station where most of the chafeurs hang out when i saw a girl lying on a bench looking very sick (and drunk) I had met her a few times because she was one of the best friends of one of my neighbours, so i asked if she wanted me to drive her home. She lived 1 hour away tough so i was away for 2 hours, the guy i was drieving was pissed (in more then one way) and said "You aint getting no gass money!!" Wich was fine by me since it was his car........

Agreed (with col). Finding out after the fact that just having been nice to a given person meant something to them is quite rewarding.

This is by no means a big deal at all, but I had enjoyed it:

I was coming home on the freeway, and just as I'd spotted a cop clocking people on an overpass where they often sit, a younger (20-ish) couple passed me in a van (presumeably en route to a wedding, judging by their dress). Either of us would've gotten a ticket, so I sped up to catch them, caught their attention, and pointed out the cop. Both of us slowed immediately and neither got tickets. Like I said, not a big deal, but it felt rewarding to save them from getting pulled over on their way to some event. Even if it may have been a stupid impulse to accelerate towards a speed trap...
