Was in a discussion via PM about the moral of one of my favorite movies and thought I'd see if anyone wanted to talk about why it is they like the movie(s) they like.

Power, even if intended for good, will ultimately corrupt and lead to evil.

Do not overlook or underestimate those you hold to be weak or insignificant, they may be the key to your undoing.

Don't piss off anthropomorphic trees.

Can anyone guess the movie(s)? It should be obvious from the last one.

Hatred doesn't belong in the brevity of human life.

The dude prevails.

Cops and robbers are quite similar beneath the surface.

Good guys are better gunslingers.

The environment will come back to bite you in the ass.

I thought that the dude abides, not prevails. Big difference. Are these all from different movies?

Ahh, crap, he does abide.

Other than that, yes these are all from different movies. They are kind of vague, and may bear little resemblance to the movies I reference. If you wish, I can tell you what movies I was thinking of.:)

From Ghost Dog (quoting the Hagakure):

It is bad when one thing becomes two. One should not look for anything else in the Way of the Samurai. It is the same for anything that is called a Way. If one understands things in this manner, he should be able to hear about all ways and be more and more in accord with his own.

Sure. I call them, well, I can't say what I call them here, but I have a term for it. Off the top of my head, I can think of two: Lord of War and Pay it Forward. Hmm, now that I think about it, Matchstick Men comes to mind. Maybe even Ocean's Eleven and Ocean's Twelve.

There's plenty more out there.

I know there are a lot more, but I'm drawing blanks too.

Justice also depends on your point of view. Take Casablanca. What happened in the end could be considered Justice if you're on the allies side. but if you were on the German side, justice certainly wasn't served. I hesitate to say more for fear of spoiling it for somone...

Arguably, the end of Star Wars: Revenege of the Sith had no justice from several points of view. The Jedi's, Anikin/Vader, Obi Wan... It's a slippery concept.

I suppose what I mean really is that in all films I can think of atm there's an implicit moral that "if you do something bad, something bad will happen to you in return."

edit:
Star Wars: Revenege of the Sith

not seen it. :D
