Simple question; what's your favorite mythical species?

With all the talk of vampires vs. werewolves, we might as well pull out the whole chest and sift through all the choices.

---

My personal choice is the incubus.

Or at least, this more detailed version of them: http://missmab.com/Demo/cubi.php ...with a few extra characteristics/more background by me.

In this way, it goes beyond their sexual origins and they become a much more interesting race with countless potential. They are now more than just rapists, they are an actual race on par with all the others.

It also means that while they retain the epicness of demons, they at the same time acquire the grace and warmth of the angels. An unholy mixture, yet at the same time, 10x more awesome than angels or demons would be on their own.

I also like weres, though that may be because they're furry so I'm naturally biased. Team Jacob #1

So, what about you all? :) Do you have any particular mythical race of beings you have an interest in?

Dragons and Devils, because they are so metal.

a well-done Vampire is hard to beat, imho.

though, especially in fantasy artwork, a righteous or avenging angel takes the runner-up spot. never going to make a good story with an angel (other than Good Omens or Girlfriend in a Coma) though so vampires take the vote.

As the lord thereof, I am deeply offended by requisite that you did not include Elves in this poll. Or Dwarves, or Halflings/Hobbits, or Gnomes, or Orcs. :p

Nothing really, but just to say....Dragons, because the chance that they actually existed is slightly higher than the other crap you put in the poll.

Of the list? Vampires. No particular reason, really.

Of those not on the list? The Abh, from Crest of the Stars.

I bet the first is a plant race and the second an insect race.

Heh Heh, Perhaps.

For the most part you are relatively correct.

The Floratieans were a race known for mimicry, largely blending in with their surrondings so the species mingle with the dominant species and preys on them. When humans came around, they took more humanoid forms and kept them. They are a hermaphroditic race, intelligent, and have risen among the most powerful civilizations in the world. They came to their height in the age of gunpowder, their regenerative power and durability make their infantry reputed and famous. Their culture is renowned for beauty and ingenuity, intwined with nature.

The Arthropodeta are not refined to the concept of insects; in fact the major branches are Araneae (Arachne), Crustacean, and several others. The Arachnid variants are the most well know... The Arthropodeta Female and Males differ greatly by appearances. The females appear half-human and half-arthropod; from the waist up appearing human (with some differences) and below taking on the appearances of their Arthropod branch... Spiders, Scorpions, Crabs, Lobsters, Centipedes, Milipedes, ect.; the males however appear more human, but would not be mistaken as such. They have both the lower and upper body of a human, however at the elbow and knee joints the limb splits into a second apendage (of their respective branch) which may grant them heightened capabilities.

The Arthropodeta have a matriarch society and are renowned warriors and craft masters. The species varies greatly from individual to individual; some can reach truly enormous proportions. They are the most diverse species and specialize in all brands of warfare.

I'd explain a bit more but I'm sure you're all bored enough as it is, correct?

Vampires, a la Bram Stoker. NOT Nosferatu style.

Not on the poll, it would be the Titanides in the Gaea trilogy.

I enjoyed Van Helsing and thought the Perfect Creature had an interesting twist on the vampire myth, so I'd say that indeed, a well-written vampire is a hard thing to beat.

I'm still biased towards spiritual beings above all, however. ;)

I considered it but stopped at the last minute, because then I'd have to include the horde of RPG creatures you list right there. :p

...Key word being mythical. :p

Considering the modern vampire seems to be some crazy mix of the traditional one with the incubus/succubus, I'm not surprised. :p

Melnibonenans.

I put Demons and Dragons.

Zombies.

You can zombify anything. Including all those other races.

Zombie dragon?

Epic.

Dwarves!

You know you'd hit it.

Never heard of half of these. Maybe I don't get out enough. (Or maybe too much) ;)
