What is your internet connection speed?

No, when talking about DSL, I'm just referring to the whole xDSL technology... It can be (usually) ADSL, or VDSL or HDSL or whatever. It's just that it uses the copper lines... So we don't do any difference. We're just talking DSL-cable like we talk ice-fire, mac-pc, guy-girl. Although there are different kind of guys and girls...

Beat that if you can
 :mwaha: :p :p

I just got 5904 again, and I just wanted to let you all know . :p :p

Still waiting for a challenger, BTW. :yeah:

I had cable for almost three years and switched to ADSL 6 months ago. No matter what anybody says it's not the technology it's the supplier you buy from and how well it has been implemented. I switched from cable because of the frequency of outages, techs that didn't even know if their DNS server was functioning and the like and email outage problems. The problems were monthly and sometimes weekly. I'm talking about a pretty major cable company that serves millions of clients. In the 6 months I had ADSL, I have not had a single problem, and that's how I have to rate performance as a customer.

Hehehe, I just used the one munzy reccomended in Calif:

1017kbps download speed
343kbps upload speed

Remember, this is over a LinkSys LAN. Damn, I love this thing. LinkSys + Cable rocks. 1000+ kbps anywhere in the house.

@ Pillager: I'm the new runner up! :D

I just hit 861 Kbps, since no one is online on a Sunday morning.

Pillager - did you really get 13 at home?

1170kbps down
349kbps up

I think this is around my natural limit on the LinkSys connection. Its a Sunday morning, about as quiet as you can get for internet congestion.

Actually, just looking at my LinkSys router, I think it transmits wirelessly to both my laptop and my PC, so both suffer the limits of a wireless connection (although the limits aren't bad---LinkSys says 11mbps! ). Despite that, one is a floor up, one is two inches away, so there IS a difference. :)

@ joespaniel: I guess he has 56k at home...but that still doesn't compensate for his work connection...

CG

Indeed, 13 at home, which is a bit of a fag.

BTW, did I mention my connection speed at work?

5904 Kbps, you know. :p:p:p

363.1 Kbps

And Pillager, a bit of what? :D

I'm in the same situation as CGannon. Got a Linksys wireless conection from the cable modem downstairs.

2wire results: 415 kbps - not bad, the other PC will probably get something like 600

broadband result- download: 548 kbps, ok, good
upload: 634 kbps, pretty good.

I have a cable modem.

First test: 25.3kbps
Second: 37.9kbps

I've seen it go up to 54 at times.

I have a 56k modem.

No? That's a shame. I'll run it again especially for you.

It was only 5651 this time. :p

BTW, cgannon, your 'challenge' was woeful. Try to get more than a measly one fifth of my speed. :p

I think dial-up and cable both fluctuate with the number of users on the internet.

DSL does not. Supposedly.

The reason for this is because when people with cable are all in the same area, and on at the same time, it will flood the cable line with traffic since the neighborhoods are all sharing the same cable.

With DSL however your line is purely dedicated to your home alone until it gets to their main server, then everything is shared from that point on.

Most cable companies claim to have fixed this problem with traffic, but my friends still complain about lag at certain times.

My internet connection speed at work:
Bandwidth = 58.4 Kbps

Basically backwards from pillagers!

At home:
1356 kbps

HA! Losers :p ....

Read this and really, really weep.

I've just got this result:

 :p
