Now that "Freaky Free Fire Friday" has fully passed for a week, what is your opinion of the general process??

Should we look forward to how and when we might do this again in the future?

How do you feel that F^4 may have benefitted or effected our community as whole??

Are there any particular topics that you found particularly interesting and informative??

Did you discover anything about the community as a whole or about other individual players or about yourself that might have an impact on how you participate in future discusions and/or games?

I like the concept, but didn't care for the implementation. Honestly, I didn't get the time to read many of them. But all those threads certainly made it harder to find the other threads. I'd really like to see them in a subforum like the Quick Games. I'd like to see a subforum entitled Clubhouse or whatever name was best from that thread about ideas for a name for a clubhouse.

Same here. It definitely helps to know more about someone than just the name, especially when the number of players expands so rapidly. After all, it's about people, not just a name on a ranking list.
A subforum wouldn't be a bad idea I think. With all the polls and F4 threads, it was sometimes hard to find back a game-related post. I had to go to page 2 sometimes.

Do this again ? A definite yes, but not too often - not every month, maybe just twice or three times a year ??
I especially liked the 'where do you hail from' and 'where did THAT come from' threads.
Inpact on my games... hmm, not sure. Maybe I'll be faster inclined to participate in the spoiler and pre-game threads.

I enjoyed it - perhaps too much :D !

I agree that a subform may have made things a bit easier to read through but it was enjoyable none the less. It is good to have an idea about other people and what makes them who they are. I especially found it interesting on how much alike some of us are. Married, kids, and have spouses who despise the game we get religated to playing from 11:00 pm after everyone sane goes to bed. Its good to know I am not the only crazy one here.

I can't help feeling that this was a teaser for the "Clubhouse" :)

If so I think it was pretty successful. Enough so that it made me change my mind about the idea. I agree that it would have been better to to create a subforum - perhaps it was more popular than expected.

In my haste to post something I completely forgot the question I was going to ask: How many GotM players use build queues?

I feel that the answer would have been a resounding "None" but I'll have to contain my curiosity until the next time.

Ted

I enjoyed F^4, but I'm not sure about the clubhouse. I'm pretty sure I couldn't be bothered to participate in the clubhouse if it was always available. Part of what made F^4 is it made a break from the norm. Maybe if the clubhouse had very infrequent opening hours, say every 2 to 4 months?

It was a great idea!! I do agree with the others that a sub-forum would have worked best, however.

The biggest shock to me was the awesome amount of highly educated Civfanatics we have here!

No wonder my level of gameplay is so far below the rest of the gang!:(

I think we all realize that we have a lot more in common than we probably would have guessed beforehand. These common interests and experiences should make us feel more like a community or a family than we did before we learned that we all grew up playing the same games and liking the same things.

I thought it was great. It was a few too many topics all at once for my feeble mind to track, but it did result in a few free whiskey drinks from Creepster for the Spurs win. :) I think we absolutley should continue this every now and then. It was good to find out about the groups' jobs, colleges, interests, etc.

I got a bit overloaded with the shear volume of topics.

I only had the time to read a handful of them.

Concept isn't bad - but I also agree on the sub-forum. I did have to spend time to sort through and find the games.

Sub forum for me also.
I was suprised to see that the community has relatively "old" people. I was a real surprise.
I love the trend on the "spouse". I think it is great to see we share thing in/out the game in common even if we are remotely connected

I liked it, but I think maybe a subforum (clubhouse?) would make it even better. It was a bit difficult finding other threads...

It was a good forum-building experience, IMHO.

I learn alot about other players.

Organization of the threads/topics is always a challenge.

I still get lost when it comes time to submit GOTMs.

First - Subforum good (as I mentioned in one of the threads)

Second - Seems like a decent implementation for a clubhouse but I agree with others that access should be limited to certain times, or it would be either boring or too overwhelming to keep up with.

You could allow medal winners to start a thread the first week after results come out. (Make sure there are some medals that anyone can win, not just the very good or very bad.) Or call for a "Happy Hour" once every 3-4 months.

I really liked the Spouse thread because it made me realize that I'm not the only one and also that there are some cool spouses out there that like Civ. Maybe I can work on my wife over the next fifty years or so.

I also liked the University College thread.

I wish more people responded to the Photos thread so I could put some faces with the nicks.

I think a good way of doing it, would be to put out 1 personal topic each month, so everyone could focus on just that topic, and plus it wouldn't confuse the message board with so many new threads.

This all fasinating. Unfortuately I didn't notice any of these threads until yesterday: too busy playing GOTM20.

Its great to know something about the other Civ sufferers. I am especially heartened to know about the other married with children players who slink off to play civ late at night. My wife used to play civ2 with me before we married, but has never played civ3 for some reason.

It was even worse for me Offa. I knew it was coming but was too busy in RL to participate. From the few I have viewed it appeared to be a good way for the forum participants to let their hair down.

Personally I like a forum which is not just focussed on the competition itself for the following reasons:

1. I consider we can learn and compete while having fun. Getting a hint of the personalities behind the “handles” helps with this.

2. I don’t spend much time outside of the GOTM forum. Not that I spend much time in the forum these days :D

3. How else can Col and I make frivolous challenges to each other, especially after provocative posts about beating opponents from “down under” :p

Offa, I think that like late participation in a spoiler threads, we should not be deterred from particiaping.

Hey Phil - are you the same one who used to come round here a few months ago - or has the English rugby team driven you into your cave again.

That kind of stuff ;)

I agree with everyone else that a subforum would probably be easier and keep the GOTM forum less cluttered. However, I really enjoyed learning more about the players I have traded posts with over the past few months. I have a goal to become more active in the forums and create better more detailed posts in the spoiler threads to match that of my follow GOTM'ers.

i missed it too...by the time i finally saw all the threads most of em were back on pages 2-4...oh well, one day wasn't enough, some people can't get in every day, unless there was some advanced warning(like 2 months) then more people would have participated...whether this would have been a good thing or not is a question...
