what is your view about iran?

My view of Iran is of a country with great potential in it's youth. If they don't screw up when it comes time for them to run the country we could see true reform and westernization.
I disagree with that last bit in your sentence. Iran need not westernise to be reformed.
In fact, I don't want Iran to be westernise. They should evolve their own modern form of Persian culture or end like...well China.
and you said me your father were powerfuler than our father? so why france that is european made a film about iran that they said iran was powerfuler than you!!!!?????
anyway thank you for your view.
I'll give this a try:
Everyone agrees that Iran/Persia has a great history and that it has been a very powerful nation earlier, but that now it is not very powerful.

Holycannoli thinks that Iran will become powerful again if it becomes more like European nations.

aronnax thinks that Iran should not become like European nations, but develop and modernise in its own, unique way. He thinks China is an example of a nation that has done so.

Personally, I'm not sure what that would mean. The concepts most people think about when talking about "westernisation" can't really have any equivalent alternatives (democracy, free speach, free enterprise/capitalism, etc)...

aronnax: What is different about China because it did not westernise?

You got the last part wrong. Iran should not westernise too much or it will end up like China. And if you take a good look at modern Chinese Culture (music, social attitudes, television, films), its basically a thin wannabe copy of American Pop Culture just with the punk and rebel part up by 100 times. The old Chinese Culture has been excluded from development.

Iran should somewhat follow Japan. Japan managed to modernise in a way that is unique to Japanese Culture, that is why we have all those "Only in Japan" jokes.

I really should have clarified that and used Japan as the example. I don't mean fully westernized like a typical european country, I mean valuing the ideals of freedom, suffrage, democracy etc. Japan did do it very well, considering a few decades ago they were at war with the US. They westernized and modernized while keeping their cultural identity, and became a major player in global economics and science.

And this guy is looking for a ban and to get his threads locked isn't he? We could be having good discussions, but no he has to go and ask about piracy and threaten his own threads.

Empires rise and fall. They had bad leaders, began killing each other, and eventually lost their empire or their independence.

...civ3: conquest...

It's against the forum rules to ask for that and I suggest you go and delete that comment before the mods see it. If you can't get a CD in Iran then you have to wait until the USA and Iran are friends again, or get it in another country.

remeber when they hanged those two pederasting teenage boys?
That is IRAN.

Obama would say that he is their allies now but then turn, like always like always! Serbia too! IRAN better not even get invovled with America, unless America is willing to deal roughly with its barbaric religion and culture.

This confused me. According to you, it's barbaric to hang pederasts?

yeah my friend we are barbaric with 7025 years culture and 2500 years imperial.

Nah, your government is barbaric, the average Iranian is more civilized than that.

7025 years? So c. 5000 BC? There were no civilizations then...

The Elamites (who weren't Persians) didn't come into existence until c. 1500 BC. So even as a stretch that's only 3500 years.

National myths are alive and kicking in Iran, I see :lmao:

I love it when people claim heritage of a completely different culture which was wiped out when the presently dominant culture arrived :mischief:

hey search in a book or in internet. and and we dont need to you. we have a complete culture. your viewpoint is very very childish.

There isn't really anything good on TV now, so I've ended up watching 300 on TNT for the past few minutes. From what I've seen so far, I find this portrayal of the Persians even more insulting than I had predicted.
