What might define the Intermediate level player?

Intermediate... do you mean medium or median?

Being average however, is like being nothing, it means you're neither courageous enough to admit your're bad, nor willing to make that commitment. To me, that'd be the worst thing possible, it'd mean I was "normal" , like "everybody else" , not outstanding, just somebody with the name... yer, well, who cares what that name is.

Face to face with The Kinks, one can't feel like everybody else.

I find assigning deep philosophical analysis on the nature of being outstanding to a computer game currently available for twelve bucks to be a little odd. If the 'worst thing possible'... or even the worst thing I've experienced..were being an 'intermediate' Civ player I would consider that winning at life.

Agreed.

Listened to the song.

Searched for the difference between those 2 words.

Song has a good text, but the style is not my own, but I don't judge people for the style of music they listen to.

Difference between medium and median is difficult, what I wrote abobe was a personal opinion, ment that I could understand persons not wanting to medium (or median) . It doesn't say anything about me devaluing those persons, only that I could not be them.

Pulling things on the meta-level I regard as being weak. What did even made you assume, that I were charging money for what I wrote above? Also, why do you care about winning that much or even feel the need to justify yourself? Winning is very easy, requires quitting, how would it be possible to "win in life" ? Assuming what I wrote before was correct, winning at life would mean quitting it, so probably committing suicide, you should know that that's no choice. You saying that "if intermediate is the worst, I consider it being the best" (or a win in life) is you being proud of being intermediate, which is what you are, proud of yourself, so...?

There's a great quote from Bobby Fischer. He was told that his opponent in an upcoming match had said that 'chess is like life', and he immediately cut in with "That is why he will lose. Chess is not like life, chess is life."

News flash Seraiel: Civ 4 is not life.

Everyone can tell a noob, but some don't realize it

Every EXPERT know he's one and most of them will feel free to tell all who want to know.

Everyone else is having fun and really don't care.

It used to be that no one around here was called a "noob" because of the negative connotations carried in from other sites. New comers to the site or game were called "newbie". It is pronounced the same but only means the person is not experienced at the game or site, without the negative load carried by the other term. I mourn the decline in civilized behavior here.

Indeed, "noob" is an offensive term that implies one is unable to improve and/or communicate properly...
"Newbie" is simply a synonym of "newcomer" (new-by), which acknowledges capabilities to improve and/or communicate properly.

@Seraiel:
I didn't seriously mean to draw the distinction between median and medium into this thread

I've never found the term noob itself offensive. It's like everything else, it's how it's used.

And some will tell all who really don't want to know...and all who already know because they've already been told...

To be honest, i doubt any of the people on civfanatics are intermediate, everyone seems to be at least mon/emp players.

I imagine joe public never gets past noble... the site is called civfanatics for a reason :)

I saw somewhere that Civ 4 has over 6 million units sold. assuming that's true and no one has bought more than one, 99.9% of the people on the planet have never bought one...so if you include all of them in 'joe public' anyone who has actually sat down and played a turn is well beyond the median, the mean, or the medium.

:deal: I am the definition

EDIT: I think an intermediate player can understand the fundamentals of the game(city settling, whipping, micromanaging, trade, city specialization, warring) and can win comfortably through Monarch/Emperor level but might have trouble late game on Immortal/Deity.

There's a contradiction in that.

If chess were life, why should CIV not be?

Civ should not be because chess shouldn't be either.

Bobby Fischer, likely the greatest chess player ever, most likely because he chose chess is life, is a great example. Chess was actually the only thing in his life that worked. Financially, romantically, emotionally, legally...his life was a disaster area with one blindingly bright spot.

Even better Bobby Fischer quote, not related to this topic at all...

"When I have the white pieces I win, because I get to move first. When I have the black pieces I win because I'm Bobby Fischer."

To say what "should and should not be for me" , isn't yours to say. To me, CIV and chess are both games, it's possible to even see life as a game, so why shouldn't a game not be life?

Bobby Fisher most likely is someone having savant syndrome, and though I find it interesting to read about him, I cannot understand why one should be interested in his life or other matters which are 100% personal. Why are you bringing him in here?

Dude, if you wanna make Civ your life, knock yourself out.

I'll watch. :mischief:

Beat me to it.

Warlords/Noble players are intermediate level players. After all, (as of 2008) over 3,000,000 copies of Civ4 have been sold. I’d wager that the great majority of players never came to this or any other Civ4 forum and never progressed past Noble.

Come on now. That makes me an advanced player. That's totally wrong!
