What Movie(s) Have You Recently Seen?

I guess that you people who did not find Lost in Translation captivating, probably did not like 'Girl with Pearl Earring' much either.

In that case I would find it bluntly evident that the problem lies with you rather than the film(s).

I see that apparently I have won by walkover, cause evidently your mind has left you to visit its grandma.

Yeah, youre teh win!!1

Havent you heard what they say about internet arguements? they say winning them is like winning the special olympics, you might win, but youre still ********.

I honestly didn't know it was a competition of any kind. Did I insult you when I said the people who post on IMDB are morons? Do you know how I found that out? I post on the IMDB forums, or well rather did for a short a while.

So technically Im one of those people, and when I was generalizing (calling them morons), of course there are exceptions to that rule (me being the genius that I am).

So sorry if I hurt your feelings. :)

I was half expecting you to accuse me of ripping off Orwell for having used the year '1984' in my posts above, but instead you went for another 'youre dumb' insult.

Now for the sake of the argument...

"emotional turmoil beneath the skin of the main characters who both are going through episodes in their separate lives = POS movie."

A lot of "art" is about even less than that, perhaps that is why it is art. It lies, in this instance, in depicting an important instance in peoples lives with the least use of exclamation marks.

Is that what art is? I always thought of great art as something that can't be defined and that's what makes it art. But anyway, yeah I did see that they both had some issues, loneliness for example. Still it failed to hold my interest.

So not entertaining, not funny, not interesting, not to me.

For any bozo can show a lot of violence and sex on film. Just as any bozo can and does appreciate that, including myself when I am in the mood for it.
Why wont you call it a "girly movie" while your at it, because it is about feelings.

Lost in Translation is a movie that wakes introspection and reassessment of ones life in a person, but one has to be receptable. True art IMO.

Why dont I call it a girly movie? Cause it was a boring movie. So now Im a homophobe for not liking a boring movie, just because said movie has ambitions of being arty?
Youre reaching again, just like you did when you said I was ripping off Bill Hicks, and youre calling me an idiot again.

If youre willing to reach that far, why dont you reach over here and jerk me off?
:joke:

(can you tell who I'm rippring off now? His name starts with C and ends with 'arlin'). :D

And well about your violence and sex, I cant stand movies like that anymore. Used to love them untill about 5 years ago, nowadays Im just bored of them.
Seen it all before.

"fascinating exoticness of Japanese society = Back in 1984... we've already gone over this part havent we? yeah."

So Japanese society can not be fascinating to westerners ever again because it was fascinating then? I fail to see your point, please explain.

No, Im still interested in japanese culture (not gaga about it like anime fans are, but interested), which is probably why I didnt think anything I saw in the movie was strange or new. Seen it all before, if you havent then it is probably interesting.

but it was back in the 80's that western pop culture 'discovered' Japan and japanese culture, and the yuppies went to sushi restoraunts and hollywood made all of those cheesy 'clash of cultures' comedies about americans going to japan and Ninjas were in every single movie/video game.

This has been a fun discussion, and again, sorry if I was being insulting.
I saw this as a lighthearted discussion about some trivial stuff, youre ok in my book if your'e a Bill Hicks fan. ;)

Man! It is as if me using Hicks against you triggered some sort of bygone trauma or something. You have taken so many cheap shots at me that I do not know where to start retorting. Why should I? You go for so many chewed over and regurgitated bits that it is embarrassing, it shows clearly that I stepped on some sore toes.

In my last post, I really tried to be civil and mature, and look where it got me, nowhere. In stead of trying to be civil back you just go ahead and read everything as an insult! Is this a bad time? Or is it truly the Hicks reference that set of "his biggest fan"?

I sort of expected more of you because you're a Bill Hicks fan, so the only thing you hurt is my picture of what a swell person anybody that likes Hicks has to be. What ever shall I believe in now?:suicide:

Lighten up, I was just yanking your chain, cause that's something I like to do with people who take things too seriously (in this case a movie), cause its fun.

For some strange reason it becomes funnier (to me) the longer I take it, and the said person dosent get it (that im just messing around) and the more serious he/she is about it.

I try to walk that fine line of being a wise guy and stepping into A-hole territory, although maybe I overstepped that line this time. :D

Oh well, I can only appologise and I have done that twice already. :)

PS. So, not a Carlin fan? recommended. ;)

The last movie I saw in a movie theater was 300. Good movie, not great. How ironic that the Spartans keep on hammering that they're free men fighting against evil Xerxes the slaver, when Spartans were also using slaves, and helotes...

And could someone please tell me who's supposed to enforce the R ratings on movies? There was a family with FOUR kids under 12 in the theater. It was really annoying. Not only was the movie not appropriate for kids that age, but they sorta ruined the experience, mainly because they were bored and so made a lot of noise.
Is the guy at the register supposed to NOT sell tickets to kids going to see a R movie?

Technically, it's legal to sell them. Nc-17 (X) is the only one that has the law behind it, althoguh some theatres will block minors from entering R rated movies unless they have someone 18 or older with them.

Funny, that is exactly what I was thinking about you, what an A-hole.

Your explanation that it is your idea of fun frankly does not change my view of you.

I like Carlin's later stuff, despise most of his audio recordings when 2/3 are just BS when he is trying to be everybodys favorite uncle or something.

Also, someone told me that the persians were the first society to ban slavery.

BTW biggie, If someone dosen't like a movie that you liked dosen't make anyone less intelligent nor less "in touch with his feelings"

Anyone can like or not like a movie and its not for you to decide.

Just watched "The Good Shepard" about a CIA operative from a secret infamous society Skullz&Bones.

Fiction but with many historical underpinnings spanning through WWII to the Cuban Missile cirsis.

I have taken my 9 year old cousin to see the film and did not make any fuss in the theater.Of course he is a kid who happen to read a little of Herodotus and many raw history books by famous historians of their days to watch it intelligently.;)

If the parent allows them into see the movie, there's not much the theater can do to disallow it. Some do have policies about being above a certain age after a certain time, but not all do.

I think they only time a theater can disallow is when the movie is rated X or NC-17.
