So the talented Swedish documentary director Malik Bendjelloul tragically took his own life at 36 a couple of days ago. His debut documentary Searching for Sugarman won an Oscar 2012 and several other prestigious prizes so this tragedy was big news here.
The documentary is about Sixto Rodriguez - an amazingly talented musician who never made it in the States or Europe but was somehow huge in South Africa and kind of well-known in Australia and New Zeeland. I just started listening to him a couple of days ago. Its like I found a long lost musical treasure. Hope you will feel the same if you missed this gem of a musician.
