What Professions/Jobs are considered "Nerdy"

Spammer :p

Computer programming hits the jackpot. Teaching other ppl to program is at close second.
And then there's those wierd math teachers who stop while talking and say: "Sorry, i was thinking of this equasion(sp?) and ... errr ... Now where was i ?" :o

I guess I´m considered nerdy - PhD in technical chemistry - but when I came to University I was astonished how normnal people in natural sciences are- Compared to Jurists and people from the Business Universities - they are really scary!!

A friend of mine is a Biochemistry major, and she's about the most un-nerdy that a person could get! I was definitely surprised when she told me her course of study, I thought she was kidding.

Theoretical physicist
Philosopher
Theologian

There is actually only one prominent profession that is not nerdy, and that is coolness connoisseur.

Theoretical physicist
As opposed to applied physicists, who are not nerdy at all? :p

Edit: On a related note, if you're at a party or something and someone asks you what you do for a living, I don't think there's a single more impressive answer in the entire world then, "Oh, I'm a theoretical physicist."

(Not that theoretical physicists go to parties.)

Mechanical engineers are more nerdy than any other engineering discipline, but computer scientists trump them with a vengeance.

Well applied physicists work with real life applications, which must be cooler than forumulating theories :mischief:

Here's a nerdy job: Editorial columnist. Those boys and girls on the opinion pages, and their TV counterparts.

Same here. Too bad the local paper isn't hiring. But I still have CFC.

I wonder why so many think librarians are nerdy. I mean, what is so essentially nerdy about it? Because librarians wear glasses?
Because a Librarian's primary tasks are organizing large numbers of books, and being able to tell people where they are if asked. They also spend their breaks surrounded by said books, giving them ample time to read about things like - let's say - Science Fiction, Fantasy, Technology ... You know, Nerd Subjects.

It was the way that they would Geek out before the invention of computers, The Internet, Google, and Wikipedia.

My mother, who is a librarian, doesn't read anything. Neither do her co-workers.

Do you have any kind of experience to back your statements up?

Don't be angry and defensive and demand evidence in a non-serious thread. He's not directly insulting your mother.

I am not claiming that all Librarians are Nerds.

I am claiming that environment in which Librarians work is very nerd-friendly, especially before the emmergance of the Internet.
