First of all I need to thank you Rhye for the best mod ever, in fact. This is so good I might even say it's better than the original Civ 4 itself

For me it's far and away better than Civ 4 vanilla, so much so it's become my standard game now that's loaded up at the start.

I've been wondering about that actually, how do you make a shortcut that starts it directly in RFC?

There are probably other ways, this could be done. I edited this section of the CivilizationIV.ini file:

Code:
; Specify a Mod folder (Mods\Mesopotamia), '0' for none
Mod = Rhye's and Fall of Civilization

A longer modern age would be nice. Wasn't the modern time given fewer turns in the last build? Seems there is hardly any time left to build the modern units and fight with them. That's why I likte to see a modern Rhye's and Fall mod, starting in 1870, not just a new start in the 1500's or 1700's.

stuff i'd like to see in RFC: longer modern age, flavoured religions and shisms, reworked corporations, possibility to spawn a vassal out of conquered lands (release colony option from vanilla?)

I was allso thinking about a unique historical event(UHE). Every civ could have a 90% chance of getting 1 UHE out of a set of 3 possible events (10% chance of getting none, 1 out of 3 , so it wouldn't be to deterministic).

For these events, I was thinking of something like:
Spain (Colombus event around 1500):
"A brave explorer asked you to support an expedition of exporation of the western seas."
1) Pay 50 gold and get a Caravel near Cuba
2) send him away

Dutch (Piet Heyn event, around 1600), or England (Francis Drake event)
"A brave naval captain requests permission for building a privateerfleet"
1) Pay 100 gold and get 3 privateers
2) Piracy is not the way of this nation!

England (Mayflower event, 1600's)
"A group of people seeks religious freedom in the new world"
1) let them go: get a settler in New England, lose 2 population in London
2) force them to stay and convert them: 2 angry faces of 10 turns in London, recieve 50 gold from claiming gold from heretics

France (Jeanne d'Arc event 1400's)
"A young maiden claims God speaks to her and will lead our civ to glory"
1) Get a great general and 3 knights, -3 in relations with all known civs
2) burn the witch, 1 angry face in all cities for 10 turns

Russia (Peter the Great's Reforms, around 1700)
"Your people are uneducated and this holds back our civ!"
1)Educated the people: get an academy in the capital and a libery in all cities bigger than 5 (pay 50 gold)
2)The barbarians can't be educated! (barracks give +1 XP more)

I don't know if this is possible to code in, but that idea sounds amazing.

hell yes!!!

Yea it does sound amazing the more I think about it.

Have to cost a little more than 50 gold though - way too cheap!

I've been wondering about that actually, how do you make a shortcut that starts it directly in RFC?

Just make a shortcut on the desktop to the actual Public Map file you want to run.

"C:\Program Files\Firaxis Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 4\Beyond the Sword\Civ4BeyondSword.exe" mod=\Rhye's and Fall of Civilization

queue MC Hammer

"C:\Program Files\Firaxis Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 4\Beyond the Sword\Civ4BeyondSword.exe" mod=\Rhye's and Fall of Civilization

If you have gold edition, like me, it is "C:\Program Files\Firaxis Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 4\Beyond the Sword\Civ4BeyondSword.exe" mod=\Rhye's and Fall of Civilization.

A simpler way to do this it to copy your BtS shortcut and add mod=\InsertModNameHere to the end of it's target path.

we posted the same shortcut path...

Back to the purpose of the thread! It would really be fun to be able to play RFC with extended UHVs!

I'm especially thinking of new modern UHVs when you're finished with the old ones, I'm picturing a global WW2 style war.. But I never get to that point because the UHVs are finished by the time technology gets there.

i like 1700 but i would honestly prefer 1500 as the start, like in GEMs scenario but each civ would be more focused on their goal instead of the unguided hand of generic AI I'd certainly prefer a bigger map, but thats probably out of the question,

Well it appears Rhye's and Fall of the Greek world has the winning amount of votes. I was the one who proposed RFC: Antiquity, but nothing has happened with it for a couple of months now. I began to lose interest and get busier at around the same time, and I assume the same happened with Jedi Gandalf who was working on the map, and nothing has happened since.

Rhye, if you do decide to work on the Greek world, either first or after a new patch, I'd be happy to help out as best I can (note that I'm not sure how exactly useful I'd actually be with my skill level :p ), and I'm sure Zachscape and JediGandalf would too. It doesn't appear that RFCA is going anywhere otherwise.

I knew Greek World would be the winner of this, and I'm sure others knew early on, too. That is why we unofficially put Antiquity on hold. I think it would be better for us to see how the xml and such progresses from GW to RFGW, so Antiquity would be a better game. Antiquity will have unique stuff other than GW though, with ME, and some different concepts.
And the whole community will help, too. RFC will be a great way to get newbies into modding, as it seems like a good interactive start for me. Hell, if I help with this and Antiquity, and maybe my own after that, it will be a good way to launch me into a game development career.
And Summer's, here, which equals more rapid progress for anything we do, with freed up schedules. But I may be busy at my new job, Toys R US! :D I applied yesterday, and hopefully I'll be accepted. I mean... who wouldn't want me? :crazyeye:

I think it's inevitable that the mod with the most new content would win but Rhye is going to have to evaluate the bang for his buck. The options new UHV's, further RFC developemt, and 1700 AD start not only could be construed to mean similar things, but could all be developed simultaneously and with less effort than developing a Greek World RFC. At the end of the day though Rhye's going to make the ultimate decision. After all whatever he feels inspired to work on will probably yield the best product regardless of how we responded to this poll :p.
