What sort of drinker are you?

Despite nearly being a muslim i am quite a heavy drinker. I am english and we are indoctinated from birth to a lifestyle of alcoholism. I like red wine most but also like german and french lagers as well as guiness (a famous irish stout). I am intelligent and non-self decieving enough to recognise that alcohol consumption has no positive factors and plenty enough negative ones to make alcohol absention the sensible choice (just as the muslims say; one thing at least they are right about) but for me it is a habit hard to break (there is probably a cosmic rule that the badder the habit the harder to break).

bzzzt wrong try again

Are you saying that alcohol has positive factors contrary to my claim? or that i am not intelligent or non self-decieving enough to recognise it? I welcome your response just wish for more clarity and presicion (forgive my spelling i am drunk on 1 and half bottles of terra organica red wine at time of writing.)

I drink red wine and schnapps on ice more than anything else. I have a high tolerance for alcohol, but I drink infrequently.

I don't drink, and it's not just because I'm underage. I've had the opportunity to drink (legally) on numerous occasions, and I've tried it several times, and every single time I hated it. I think booze is disgusting.

Jeezz.. I said the same thing back when I was 17 or 18 ... I also heard other people saying it ... and at the end we all end up bouncing in the alcohol-claws... :D

almost got me laid once

Are you saying that alcohol has positive factors contrary to my claim?

Of course it does - just make that moderate alcohol consumption, first.

There are any number of studies indicating that moderate and regular consumption of red wine (need I mention that is my preferred drink? :D) is actually beneficial to the health, specifically for heart and arteries (see the 'French paradox'). Beer has also been credited with some positive health effects.

Also, who can deny moderate alcohol consumption benefits social interaction? Why do most people like to have a drink with their friends? There has to be a reason why people have been drinking alcohol for thousands of years ... nuff said.

On the other hand, drinking alcohol to excess is both unhealthy and socially disruptive, no question about it. So, the trick is finding the right amount of consumption and sticking to it.

Personally, I hate being drunk and not in command of my faculties - I haven't done any 'binge drinking' since I was 16 or so.
(Edit: and since I just turned 48, that's been quite a while)

This thread is meant to be a light-hearted discussion about people's alcohol drinking habits. By the question in the title, I mean:

- how often do you drink?

Generally only weekends. 1-2 glasses of bourbon and coke generally, unless I go out somewhere.

- do you drink wine? beer? spirits?

Never bothered to try wine. I do drink beer and spirits though.

- are you a fan of hard liquor? do you drink it straight or do you mix?

I'm a fan of any liquor, straight or mixed. Although mixed is often tastier.

- do you enjoy putting down shot after shot?

If someone else is buying them, yes.

And to fully describe what I'm talking about, I was with a bunch of people who'd came from interstate, so went to the bar at the backpackers hostel where they were staying at and 2 fine young gentlemen each bought about 40 shots for the group at $2 each. Which was pretty good, but not as good as the finer young gentleman who bought over 150 shots over the course of the night for people. Always preceded by the innocent question, "shots?"

- what's your limit?

I've never hit it. Somewhere after 10 drinks though.

and last, but still importantly:

- do you chase?

I don't drink solely to get drunk, that's just the primary objective. If I don't like the taste of something I'll buy something different that I do like the taste of.

Also, drunk video games are the best kind of video games. "That guy" who always wins suddenly becomes more prone to losing, and that makes things much more exciting!

EDIT:
What sort of drinker are you?
A binge drinker.

How often do you drink?

Sometimes; once or twice a week if I've got alcohol on hand. but it's not something that I buy frequently, so sometimes it's months between drinks.

Do you drink wine? beer? spirits?

Any of the above. Depends what I'm in the mood for.

Are you a fan of hard liquor? Do you drink it straight or do you mix?

I would say yes, but I definitely prefer my hard liquor mixed. Straight up, too many of them simply taste like poison.

Do you enjoy putting down shot after shot?

No. My throat can't take it. Also see below:

What's your limit?

I'm really light-weight; at 130-135 lbs, two or three drinks is my limit depending on circumstances (meals, etc.). I don't enjoy being drunk, so I normally stop at just one drink.

Do you chase?

Absolutely not.

I don't drink.

Actually, I find that girl drinks make me throw up more than straight shots of stuff. Weird.

That's not weird at all. It's all the sugar.

Also, I've found that Blue Moon is a quite decent beer.

Agreed. I concede it's "girl beer". I like it anyway. ;)

My heavy partying over the last few years have given me quite a tolerance, but I'm definitely toning it down in my old age :p

:old:

that alcohol consumption has no positive factors

That's just false. :)

and last, but still importantly:

- do you chase?

1) Only when I go out with friends or it's a party...ie social drinker.
2) I like wine for it's consistency and beer for....well it's beer! I dont need a reason to like it.
3) Straight for masochism and/or need to get plastered to feel like a ground-to-air missile. Mixing is for relaxed drinking usually with a smoke.
4) Only if it's a group activity.
5) Half a bottle of rum I believe. Though it's been a while.

6) Chase what?

I am implying all of the above.

- how often do you drink?
Intermittently; when it's available and other people are doing it. Social drinker then, I guess.

Wine, especially ruby port, if I can, but usually it ends up being beer because that's what's there. Not a fan of spirits in general but I've never really had them all that much.

Haven't had a whole lot but I do know that I don't like vodka straight.
Japanrocks12 said:

No.

I try to limit myself enough to not find out (never played any games for instance). I'm a pretty big guy but my family history as regards alcohol isn't an encouraging one.

Pretty limited sample size there, chief. ;) When I had the vodka, I had a Coke afterwards upon the revelation that it ain't my thing.

I drink most weekends (though not all, I regualry go 2-3 weeks without a drop

I'd be ordinarily a beer-drinker. Murphy's or Guinness would be the weapon of choice. Nice continental beers and British fine ales are consumed in the more sedate setting of my sofa of a weekend evening.

Not a huge fan of hard liquor though I'll usually have a Jameson & Coke if I'm in an establishment where I don't trust the draught beer. Neat whiskey is reserved for a small measure with my father at Christmas.

I do not enjoy shot slamming of any stripe. Slow suppin' is more my style

My limit is a rather flexible thing depending on many factors. Cold, I'd say about 6-7 before things start getting uncomfortable.

Where do you find those? I'd kill for almost any kind of IPA but I've never seen any in Cork.

I consider myself to be a keen drinker. Most weekends I'll drink a bottle of whisky, preferably single malt but that costs an arm and a leg so often Johnny Walkers Red, sometimes Whiskey (Power's, Beam or JD...somethimes something more uncommon such as Buffalo Trace) and sometimes other spirits, gin, vodka or tequila, probably in that order in terms of frequency.

On weeknights (only once or twice a week though) I drink beer (usually Lech) so as not to have a hangover in work.

Havent been drunk over a year.

I think I'll drink soon, miss it a little bit. Ill drink anything alcoholic, even wine in small quantities.

How can you only nearly be a Muslim?

- how often do you drink?
Rarely nowadays, due to health issues.
- do you drink wine? beer? spirits?
Preferably red wine. Shiraz, Malbec or Pinotage. Can't drink most sorts of beer and spirits made on grain. Shouldn't drink too much brandy or potato vodka either.
- are you a fan of hard liquor?
No.
do you drink it straight or do you mix?
Straight.
- do you enjoy putting down shot after shot?
I might, but my liver most certainly might not. And in this case, my liver gets the last say.
- what's your limit?
I have no intention in testing that out for obvious reasons.
- do you chase?
No.
Not necessary.
