What sounds better: Czechia or Bohemia?

What should the short name of the Czech Republic be called?

It was mainly because Slovaks feel opressed by Czechs. It should be solved after WWII after Slovak betrayal, but communist regime did his best to supress any chance of solution of relationship. In 1969 it was too late, federalization was only because stabilize Prague Spring and take support from Slovaks in normalization.

What is this Slovak betrayal you're talking about? What did they do? I've just taken a real interest in Czechoslovakian history. :)

Munich agreement - agreement about giving sudetenland
After some months Slovakia split from the rest of Czechoslovakia. Bohemia and Moravia was occupied by Germans. Slovakia was German ally and later participated in WW2. It was something like Vichy France but with loyalty and participation in holocaust and war.

Bohemia sounds way cooler, and is more in line with what I read up on for history.

OK here is some Slovak explanation (you asked for it :))
about "BETRAYAL":
on 13. march Hitler called Tiso (ex-PM of slovak autonomous governement deposed by czech military intervention) into Berlin and told him that he wants and will annex Czech lands but isnt really interested in Slovakia. He gave Tiso 2 possibilities: 1. He will procaim "independent" Slovak state and Germany will guarantee its independence or 2. Hitler will let Hungary and Poland to split slovak territory between themselves.
14.3.1939 Slovak assembly proclaimed "independent" Slovak state
15.3.1939 German troops marched into Czech lands and created Protektorat Bohmen und Mahren. GB and France just watched sillently.
As you can see, from slovak (well to be precise from mine ;)) point of view it was just rescueing from a sinking ship...into rotten and repulsive ship called Fashist Slovak state, but there just werent other possibilities (and no, being occupated by Hungary and Poland isnt IMO better possibility)
Its very difficult toppic and i put it here very short because Im allready OT, but if anybody interested we still have history forum :)
Back to the topic: Im for Czechomoravia - it has the cool sound of Czechoslovakia+you have Morava included (I know Silesia is missing, but who cares )
P.S. Sorry if its pain to read, but here its midnight:sleep:

In my humble opinion, Bohemia sounds much, much nicer than Czechia. I don't like the name Czechia, but Bohemia.... Well I might be a little biased, as boem means something very poetic in my language, taken from the French "Boheme"...

Mmmh I can see a new, ugly trend rearing its fearsome head.

Which sounds better, Romania or Wallachia? :D

It would have been quite nice to have Greece renamed to
Greece-Byzantine Empire :)
(as in Bosnia-Herzegovina. although that is not from two different periods) :p

Neither. Cumania. :p

I think a better analogy would be Greece-Macedonia...

Greece-Macedonia would create problems ;)
Attica-Macedonia-Epirus-Thrace-Achaia-Sparta-Elis-Chalkis-Crete etc would be better :D

You're forgetting a Morea in there.

More Morea? I gave it three different provinces ;)

Bah! If you're going to have more than one name for Greece, then include Morea so you can have part byzantine heritage! :p

Hey, Morea is quite byzantine, but Thessalonike was always the second most important city of the empire ;)
Macedonia was the land of two dynasties as well; and probably of the stronger byzantine emperor ever too..
