What to do with Iran...

Title says it. What should not just the US, but also NATO and the UN do with Iran. We know they are trying to acquire nukes. They aren't supposed to have them. So how to deal with them?

And if someone really believes that they only want a nuke reactor for the energy, please leave now because you fail at life....

Do what they did about Israel's attempts to do the same, or India's. Let them do it. Hell, get involved if you can, there's money to be made and influence/control to spread. Also, stop giving them a need to create these deterrents by invading their neighbours. And watch while the mismanagement of their economy,together with the punitive measures already in force, unravels their current government.

The other options like 'reducing Tehran to rubble from the air', 'letting Israel conduct an air strike on the sites', 'naval blockade of the Strait of Hormuz' and / or 'invading', will all merely delay the inevitable. Such action would give extra cause to go nuclear, making it yet more inevitable. It would also lead to direct conflict, which we don't have with Iran right now (only through proxies), opening up a new theatre (and a far more serious one at that) in the Middle East's landscape that is already troubled from such interfering. Such action would increase hatred across the Middle East for the western world, which will often be manifested in increased terrorism campaigns against western interests, and their allies. Those options would be far more catastrophic.

I see what you mean, but the problem with having a nuclear iran is that they will use it against Israel, which is America's ally. The Iranian president has made that clear on several occasions. Also, his certain brand of extremism dictates that a world consuming war will hurry up the return of the Shaman (pardon me if I misspelled that) and bring about a Utopia on earth. So that nut actually believes that if he starts a nuclear war with America, let alone a general Middle-Eastern war, he will hurry up the return of that Muslim sects 'savior'.

So basically it's a crappy situation no matter what. And whatever happens, the only nation that will benifit in the end is Russia. Which will make the current chill in relations between the East and West plunge into a second cold war.

I'm not convinced he's a nutter... he does just enough to satisfy the extremists in his country without making any direct threats that would alienate the liberals. I don't like the guy, but I don't think he's about to go red button on anyone.

The UN says that Iran can't have nukes. America is mearly trying to prop up the UN and make it do what it's supposed to do. And America was appointed world cop in 1991 when the USSR fell. It is the responsibility of the sole world superpower to ensure international laws are observed and to help smaller/weaker/poorer nations when needed.

Because Russia has a third of the planets natural gas reserves and over 10% of the planets oil. If the Middle East is destabilized even more, oil prices will be rediculous, and the west will be forced to purchase their oil from companies other than OPEC. And as the West, America especially, starve from the lack of energy Russia would get rich and possibly re-assert itself

He is a nut, and he has come out and said that all of that is his goal. To annhiliate Israel and America and to spread his extremist BS and all that blah blah blah. And there is no doubt in my mind that war with Iran would suck. But it would clear up Iraq in a hurry.

Iran sees themselves as the superpower of southwest asia, expecialy now that we have removed Iraq from power.

War seems to be definate between Israel and Iran.

As long as we are supplying weapons to both sides i think it is ok for us to set back and watch it unfold.
