The latter things ultimately led to the loss of the former.

Legos, Hotwheels, and of course army men. Me and my friends would save up untill we were able to buy literally hundreds of them then have enourmes wars, lasting an entire day with hundreds of troops, and dozens of tanks/planes.

Legos, self-made bows, "Stokys", Matchbox, most of the time we played outside, though

oh, and if we were really bored, we'd build halberds and declare war on the neighbouring community :)

When I was little, Lego and Playmobils mostly.
Later toy soldiers, and model kits.
Later, I played a lot boardgames, and wargames.

Now:
Still toy soldiers, but painting them instead of playing

Obviously I played mostly with Transformers with this one being my favourite. The picture is from the Internet but I'm now surely but surely re-building the collection I had as a kid.

Bayko. Lego. Lots of building kits. Meccano. was the best.

Every engineer I ever knew had meccano as a kid.

James May blames the lack of meccano these days as a reason for the collapse of the UK's manufacturing industry
