Mine aren't necessarily for gameplay reasons, but historical flavor.
I voted for
America: Film Studio- It should at least grant a great work of writing slot to differ it from a broadcast center.
France: Chateau- Should give housing (it's a large house) and amenities ( they have parties in there)
Khmer: Grand Baray- I've mentioned this before but I think that Dams should get the same kinds of bonuses that the aqueducts already provide in the ability.

Not on the poll but:
Norway: Viking Longship- I would rather the longship be buffed and be a classical era melee unit at shipbuilding instead of replacing the galley. That way Norway would be the primary dominant force of the seas during late classical and medieval era and not be outclassed by Phoenicia's bireme.

Honorable Mention:
Persia: Satrapies- Make the trade route bonuses provide more culture and gold if the origin city has a governor. It makes sense

Russia Grand Embassy needs a buff! The Lavra is outrageously broken and combined with a Tundra start it practically guarantees a religion if you want it. Some ideas:

- have the bonuses scale as you move up the tech tree, instead of it being according to how further ahead the AI is. For instance, "+1 science/culture per trade route to a civ which is ahead on the respective trees. +1 to yields when you unlock the Education Technology/Medieval Faires Civic. Additional +1 at the Chemistry/Ideology and Rocketry/Cold War Techologies/Civics respectively".
Optional: bonus requires the destination civ to be ahead in tech/civics

- Add a spy bonus. +1 level for the 'Steal Tech Boost' spy mission. Spies who are undertaking the 'Listening Post' mission provide an extra level of diplomatic visibility

Norway needs some changes... Berserker should be more impactful, and stave church is too much of a hassle to build for a domination focused civ.

Make the Berserker come super early like it did in Civ 5, so you can have a brief moment of mad pillaging before they become outdated. And make the stave church a tile improvement or a shrine instead of a temple.

Yeah man I don't know. Russia is plenty good as it is... why make them even stronger?

Norway is probably my favorite civ in the game, and while both the berserker and stave church aren't very good I don't really think Norway needs any help either.

Why not? I wouldn't mind a truly epic civ...
Seriously though I was just targeting the individual bonus, as per OP. Why have a weak bonus just because the other one is strong?
Why not both?

Thinking about these apparent swords replacements...

-Change the tech for them from military tactics to apprenticeship
-Make them a resourceless, gold-free upgrade (not replacement) from swords

That’s it.

  • Canada. These guys just don’t work. I’m not saying they’re underpowered. I just think they don’t work. Farms on Tundra suck. Their UU is a meme and is terrible. And the no Surprise War feels like a Gimmick. Just a mess..
Ah, no, as a regular Canada player, lets not change Canada. They’re fine now. They were underpowered at launch, but with the changes to tundra improvements, they’re in a good place. Mounties being able to make NPs is crazy good, and has always been. I think people just don’t understand how good NPs are. 2 amenities for the city, plus 1 to the next 4 closest . +3 era score per park built (4 with Taj) . At a minimum, 8 tourism (more than most wonders), and double that with “wish you were here”...you get the idea.

The only things I would is is that tundra farms are superfluous, I rarely use them, and they moved “wish you were here” to Atomic for some reason, and that slows down victories for Canada. So, something could be done about those two, but in general they’re fine.

Balance. I get what you are saying, but Russia already gets the easiest path to religion in the game (Lavra), a leg up on culture (since Lavra gives GWAM points), and extended borders on settling with an ability to use lands most civs can't. Your changes would give them an easier time going for science victory (with your trade route and steal tech changes) and domination (with the increased diplo visibility) as well.

While I think civs should have a chance at every type of victory, I don't think they need to have an advantage towards achieving *all* of them. Russia's already widely regarded as one of the best civs in the game.

Now, if they were also going to boost every other civ in the same way then I'd be okay with it. I don't see that happening though.

Good point. Honestly don't have a counter to that. Other than buffing, maybe just changing the bonus to something a little less dependent on doing badly. It's quite a terrible 'bonus'

England / Pax B

You know, if I was going to tweak something it would be maybe Pax Britanica.

The ability is basically okay now, although maybe doesn’t have much to do with history at this point. Love the extra trade route. Red Coats are still cool, and you can pump them out with Magnus if Niter is an issue.

But Jesus, that one random Melee unit when you first settle a continent just feels sad. Hello little fella! And you only get one - the next City on the same continent, you get Nada.

I don’t mind the free Naval unit, although there’s a slightly rubbish synergy with the Sea Dog (do I really need two ways to get “free” Naval units).

I think maybe Pax B should just cut the string and get rid of free units entirely. Instead, just have a +% building Melee and Naval Ranged and Privateer units in Cities with a RND (or instead maybe a Governor) and on a Foreign Continent.

Cree - Nihithaw

I think the Cree’s UA should give you a free starting scout. Cree’s UU is expensive v normal scout, which means it’s actually harder and slower to get out an earlier scout, which makes the Cree actually worse at early scouting (although a scout from a goody hut is particularly sweet).

Giving the Cree a free Scout would help balance that nicely, and would be a unique ability comparable to only Aztec and their starting unit. Come on, it’s a no brainer.

Sumeria - Enkidu

Sumeria is a great Civ, but the leader ability is very hard to parse. I think they should keep the additional Ally points, but then just make the ability a flat xp bonus for units and or -/+ grievances generally.

Canada

I’m not knocking Canada’s power level. I think they’re more or less balanced. I just think they’re implemented in a way that feels gimmicky and isn’t that fun.

Mounties as a UU feels like a meme. I think Canada needs a more military or recon related UU, with their Mountie being a second UU.

The surprise war feels gimmicky. And I think it’s anti-fun making Canada immune from Surprise Wars.

Farms on Tundra are fine mechanically, but the logic escapes me. No one builds farms on Tundra.

I think the wider focus on Tundra Resources and Diplomacy is otherwise pretty good.
