What Video Games Have You Been Playing #15: Computer not on fire yet? Better add more mods!

I wasted something like 5-6 hours on a new early access game called This Land Is My Land. Brilliant in concept, but as it's in early access, pretty lacking in UX and unfortunately buggy. Nothing out of the ordinary, to be expected really, but still quite rough around the edges. I got eaten by bears both times I died, but I did kill several dozen palefaces beforehand.

One of the great crack up funny moments in gaming is when you meet the leader of the evil Drengin in GalCiv and he greets you singing "This land is my land, now so is your land..." Since there's no voice you have to imagine the singing part, but that was pretty much automatic for me.

(glances over at my browser's download history) So much for cleaning out my game mods....

I gave Master of Orion 1 another shake. It's aight. The user interface is frustrating but that's to be expected. Combat is pretty boring though and I'm not very good at it. I'm on easy and getting stomped by all the other empires but that's to be expected as I went many, many turns without really understanding what I was doing.

I dont know why combat bores You ?! In Moo 2 You get to design Your own ships and combat is all about trying them out You see , It's like building a deck in MTG (Tragic the Gardening) , it is great and it is why I so much love Moo2 , I think You should play Moo 2 , You will encounter my avatar there ! ^^ :mischief:

Late game killer is a Stellar Converter , Phasing Cloak Doom Star class Starship. Nothing really is able to compete. In MP considered a cheat.

I ..... have lost the topic .....

Anyways there was this one guy who dreamed he can ....

I forgot .....

My stomach pulled through and I finished the VR campaign for Ace Combat 7. Probably the best VR experience I've had so far. It's criminally short though, just three missions. I guess there's plenty of replay value for trying to complete them on hard, but still. Their VR engine is amazing so I don't understand why they couldn't jus have release the whole game as VR compatible. :(

Maybe it's a test release intending to gauge the market before sinking significant resources on a full conversion?

I got to play Fallout 4 for an entire hour before it crashed today.

Meanwhile, mine almost never crashes. Which is very odd. It must be plotting something.

Here's hoping! Even with a working VR engine it's probably still a lot of work porting a full game to that format. A lot of assets would have to be scaled down and stuff. Still, with all the praise they've received over it they must at least be considering further VR developments, even though the market is somewhat nichey.

PSVR was the #1 install base at the time of AC7's release, though. Something like 2 or 4 million units!

I like some fun racing here and there and time by time I go back to CMRally2 (yeah, I know, its reallly old but I like old stuff - like me :D ) and got into one of Italy rally stages (10th) to look for time improvement (taking some random stuff - never know... sometimes despite hrs played, still can find some extra speed). Neverending tarmac mix of 2nd, 3rd and few 4th gear corners, some really really really tight. Tried like 15+ times with different cars etc. Every damm time messing up sequence and damaging car/loosing time/throwing stuff around room :D And suddenly that one time came - mind was clear, focus (was riding Ford Focus :D ) only on track, everything felt right and final time was whooping 9 seconds faster (3:18.2; target to beat was 3:27.6). Any other try before was at or over 3:28.5.
I love video games :woohoo:

Ever play Dirt Rally? It was free some time in the last year, I think. Feels so damn good to get a nice run in.

I'll just .... just drop it here ....

I think I got a little carried away with this thing.

Interesting!

If sony wants to reach the kind of PSVR sales they're dreaming for, they IMO really need games like a full VR version of AC7.

For people on Windows 10:

There's a glitch where standby memory doesn't get released and fills up most of the RAM, which might cause issues with memory-intensive games. You can see if this is happening in the Resource Monitor.

There's a fix for this involving setting up Task Scheduler to run Empty Standby List every few minutes. Make sure it's set to run with highest privileges.

There's also a Sysinternals utility called RAMMap that can determine what's using up the standby memory in the first place.
