Yeah, have to say that Aimee has a good head for thinking about hilarious names :D

Still on Civ2 playing La Belle Epoque by Eivind IV. My goals wane between America as President Amadeus, the great protector of proto-Rothbardian liberty (low taxes, ideally none) or Russia as a ruthless fascist dictatorship under Czar Amadeus that will stamp out the German-Austrian menace once and for all!

Or I’m the benign King Amadeus of Britain who just needs to squash a bunch of colonial malcontents while keeping the Germans from overrunning France.

It seems to be updated constantly. I am able to hook up with a good server here in Saudi, which is cool. But I do not understand what I am supposed to be doing. I think I will have to do the Basic Training thing.

You’re in Saudi Arabia, you don’t know what to do, and you need to go through basic training?

Is this 1990? Is Gorby still a thing? I’m totally lost here.

Not really, it was half tongue-in-cheek. It's just not really the sort of game I'm into usually. It must reach some sort of design honeypot.

I used this mod to slow down the time to 10 mn per 10 s instead of 7 s, and it completely changed the feeling of the game.
I don't mind having to sleep, not only it's pretty normal (hard to have an active lifestyle without sleeping) but I find that it somehow make the game a bit like Civ : a day is a turn, in which you do all the routine stuff plus the stuff that depends on the situation. Give a good canvas for the game.
So I really wish I could mod 3DS games because Harvest Moon also suffers from a heavy dose of 'day rush', where you don't have time to do everything you want to do without a mad blitz from sunrise to sundown. I too wish I could slow it down at time and just enjoy farming instead of blazing through it to do get all my chores done in time.
I just now downloaded America's Army, which is free. I find the game confusing. I will mess with it a while longer.
My dad worked on that game for a bit! He's not a programmer, I think he was an advisor or something.
Isn’t that like 15 years old?
Is Civ2 older?

The game itself is more of a simulation of army life than a straight FPS. You begin the game by going through a simulation of basic training.

To think that you're posting such heresy on a Civ forum. :nono: Of course Civ 2 is older. :)

Civilization :worship: The mother of all games came out April 21 by a Great Prophet Sid Meier in 1991 . :worship:

That's intersting, I found I couldn't get into Stardew Valley exactly because of the time system. It would be much more fun if you didn't have to sleep...

I don't see how, sleep is integral to progression. I can understand wanting longer days, or freezing time when you're in the mines or hunting for a time-specific rare collectible, but doing away with the day system entirely would be catastrophic.

I've posted this before but if you don't like Stardew right out the gate, it's a good idea to abandon it for a few months and then try again. I hated it the first time and got a refund, but the next year I tried again and now have ~70 or 80 hours in it.

That's exactly what I'm criticizing.

When a game entrances me I tend to forgo sleeping, eating and drinking in order to make progress. (the chief enemies of a video game player ) My needs seem unimportant in the light of progressing the storyline ! :) What is it about us humans that we like to hurt ourselves like that ?

Personally I think Civilization would be better if it didn't have turns

All I'm saying is that I like frontloading my skill-grinding in RPGs so I become comically overpowered. Stardew's system forces you into gradual progression and that just makes it less fun for me.

Civ being turn-based, incidentally, has the opposite effects, it means you can make decisions at your own pace instead of having to run around and do everything on a timer. Imagine if you had only 2 minutes to take every action during a turn in Civ, and if you failed to hit the end turn button by the two minute mark you would lose 5 military units and 100 gold. That's how Stardew Valley often feels to me.

So it is not the prize that is valuable , it is the journey to it !!!

Sorta. But also the prize, when the prize is being able to two-shot the final boss.
