What video games have you been playing V: the return of the subtitle

You should get EE if only for the dynamic economy and randomised merchant quests. It's one of my essential mods. :)

Stupid question of the day. :hammer2:

I have Oblivion in my Steam library but have never installed it. Assuming I do, how would I go about obtaining mods?

Easy! First start with the Unofficial Official Patches, look into using Wrye Bash and/or LOOT to sort your load order and have at it. You might want to start small though - it does a bit of practice to get 100 mods all working nicely together. :)

Oh, yes, if you look into OBSE mods, you'll need a different OBSE launcher for the Steam version, due to the way Steam messes with the executable. If you're prepared to read a load of stuff first though (which you really should be if you're planning a lot of mods), you should be able to handle the procedure easily enough.

Alternatively, you can take the "creative" route and bung everything into the mod folder and see how wonderfully the game breaks in multiple different ways. I wouldn't advise that. :p

It probably says something about me that I had all the heads stuffed in a box at home before I even realised you could use them outside of that quest. I just figured, hey, free heads.

And it probably says something about me that I make a point of taking the boots of Thalmor Justicars and their guards as trophies. Lets me keep track of how many elven Nazis I've killed and gives me a warm feeling inside. Just wish I could line them up on some shelves...

I use fast travel a lot because I prefer having fun.

Actually, fast travelling a lot in Skyrim makes things more difficult, not less, as the respawn rate on dragons and other nasties is refreshed each time you abruptly change location like that.

Exactly, thereby making the game more fun (for me at least).

I get the immersive aspect of not fast-travelling, but sometimes walking everywhere is a chore. So sometimes I will walk places and sometimes I will fast travel, depends on how I'm feeling in the moment.

I play with Frostfall and there's an option to disable fast travelling there but I don't use it.

Just to be clear, that's for Skyrim? I'm intrigued. Shall have to look into it. I'm in favor of mods that just add a bit of lower-key stuff to the game without changing it too much.

Ha, a kindred spirit! I collect the robes of Thalmor Justiciars, don't bother keeping track of the armored mooks. I love when I come on them in the wilderness and just wipe them out.

I also play as a High Elf most of the time. My headcanon is either I fell out with the Thalmor for some reason and now seek revenge, or I was a left-wing elf who was appalled by their crimes

EDIT: Oh, and while we're talking about Skyrim can we talk about the soundtrack! I love it. I actually downloaded it, making Skyrim along with Civilization (III, IV, and V) and Halo (1, 2, 3, and Reach) one of the three game series where I've actually got the music on my hard drive. It is really awesome to walk through the park during a blizzard smoking a fat joint and listening to Skyrim music :D

But high elves get that free +50 magicka which I can just never pass up in char selection

more exps

more dragon souls for more shouts

For me it's like: Instead of holding down W for a really long time before doing the thing, you can use fast travel and do the thing right away

Yeah, if I'm on my way to a particular mission and know that I don't want to take any detours, I'll fast-travel to the nearest point that I can and then walk from there. Likewise, on the way back I'll usually fast-travel for the same reason (e.g. I'm already carrying too much treasure and won't want to go into any more caves or bandit camps, even if I find one I hadn't discovered yet).

Pfft. Magic? Who uses that? Beyond Feather, there's no really useful spell.

Also, people? Automove is a thing. Q and all you need is the mouse to direct your character.

that's even worse than holding down W

One of the worst things I felt about playing oblivion was walking outside of the imperial city for the first time, finding iirc a bandit-filled fort I could walk into, and deciding: "No, I'm already too close to the carry limit, there is no reason to go inside"

Skyrim was my first fantasy game, and at the time I thought magic was stupid and silly, so my first character focused purely on health, stamina, and mostly fighting skills. Ended up extremely powerful with perfect armor, hard-hitting, armor-piercing maces, a very powerful bow or crossbow with all the perks, and a shield charge that could send almost anyone flying. I almost never used magic.

Then I figured a Breton warrior build with some Alteration skill, Mara's Blessing, the Lord Stone, and enchanted and fully smithed armor and shield could resist 85% of all fire, ice, lightning, and physical damage and 50% of fall damage, so I got well on my way to making that. Bretons are great, and not just because they're based on, well, the Bretons.

And instead of horses or fast travel, I just get high stamina, enchanted items increasing the replenishment rate, and the Well Fitted perk, and I can indulge in the brutal sport of cross-country sprinting.
