And if you got demoted, then you can get re-promoted pretty quickly.

Oh, I know about the chance cards and stuff. I just found it a bit odd that the fallout from fighting with someone beneath you on the totem pole would end up with you demoted. If anything, it'd be the other person getting the hammer!

Some of the chance cards are pretty stupid. Though this one (for level 9 of the Science Career) always elicited a chuckle from me:

With the recent complications arising from such concepts as dark matter, wormhole theory, red vs. blue shift, superstring theory, <Sim>'s own extra-special relativity, not the mention the meta-spline reticulation debate, <Sim> has decided to take on a more rational approach to his/her theorizing. After all, there are so many inconsistencies and unknowns still lurking in the day to day activities of Sims across the world. For instance, what happened to all the pets in SimCity? One day they were there and the next day they were gone, vanished without a trace. Or how is it that Sims are all able to carpool, but yet not one Sim seems to own a car? Better yet, what's the deal with "inventory"? How is it that no one seems to have a problem with the seemingly infinite universe that exists within each and every Sim's pockets? But <Sim> needs to focus, and he needs a starting point. Should he/she start with the tangible or the intangible?

Level 10 of the Gamer career is also great:

<Sim> has a brilliant idea for a video game about running the lives of people in their homes, but he/she is having a difficult time finishing up the storyline for one group of characters. One couple needs to be broken up, but <Sim> doesn't know how to do so in a creative way. Should <Sim> write a story so that aliens take the wife away while looking at the stars, or something else?

Civ 3 is on steam sale for dirt cheap. Any opinions on how it holds up? I last played the vanilla game well over a decade ago and can't remember anything from it besides having no idea how to play.

Holds up well. Runs fine on Windows 10. Section is still active on CFC. A breeze to mod.

It's just a shame that future expansions packs allowed you to get both pets and family cars.

I was fascinated by the scenarios in Civ3 Complete...not sure which expansion they came from. I had Civ IV sitting on the shelf for almost a year because I was happily playing Civ 3 and couldn't be bothered installing it.

PFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT!!!!!!!
Civ 2 is superior!

Played about an hour of Civ3 and already I'm seeing how much work Firaxis has put into making mindless REXing not the best strategy.

And I appreciate that.

Tim brings up a good point about scenarios...

The defaults are pretty good, but definitely look into @Plotinus'! His Africa scenario is the bee's knees.

Ha, thank you! But there are many wonderful Civ III scenarios right here at CFC, which will keep you going for a long time if you so choose.

Didn't expect the guy to take a rejected flirt that hard.

No, he's a Romance Sim who's gone into aspiration failure and is now having a psychotic break.

Death animation is more along the line of curling up on a fetal position on the floor. Unless they drown, in which case they flail a bit and then sink down. Or get eaten by the cowplant, where they just kind of disappear. Maybe the satellite death has a different animation too.

EDIT: Here. :)

My first attempt at modding the Sims 2 was a success!

Well, that depends on your definition of 'success.' If you're making a mod that lets Sims autonomously order a pizza when they're hungry, having them constantly order pizzas when their hunger bar is only slightly yellow might not be the intended effect. Having them ignore the freshly-delivered pizzas and continue ordering them until their money is completely depleted is really not the intended effect. Having them continue to try to order pizzas with no money--well, you get the idea.

But hey, at least it works. Sort of.

Other than the not eating them part I'd say this is reflective of real world behavior in regards to pizza.

I have a hard time playing with the old corruption system vs maintenance or civ 5 global happiness systems. Corruption seems so punitive and unfun.

Really? I thought 3 was basically all about rex, tons of small cities covering a map.
