The Long Dark
Up to day 28 (Stalker), currently in Milton... finally made it over from Broken Railroad as planned. It took almost a week to slowly stabilize my situation in the Maintenance shed because I only had one can, so I couldn't make water fast enough. Plus with no hacksaw or hatchet I couldn't cut up any wood. The side benefit is that since I was dependent on breaking up those numerous large green wooden crates in the Maintenance Shed, I was able to find a bunch of loot inside/under the crates. I left non-essential gear in the Maintenance Shed and headed around the large pond/clearing to the small bridge/gated path up to the Hunter's Lodge. I ended up getting attacked by a wolf with no antiseptic, so it became infected after a couple days. I made a medicinal wrap with beard-lichen, but I had multiple infections and I couldn't treat them all. Thankfully, I did have antibiotics for that but I took damage for days and almost died before I was able to fully heal.
Once I healed up, I used the rifle I found in the Hunter's Lodge to bag a moose right outside on the frozen pond out front, and almost died twice, trying to fully harvest it, between wolf attacks and freezing temps while harvesting. It ended up taking me about 4 days to completely harvest the moose and cook all of it, but it was worth it of course because I was then able to stockpile large supplies of meat in my "dry-aging" shed at the Hunting Lodge, as well as in the cold storage side-room at the Maintenance Shed. I also used up most of the reclaimed wood that I could break up by hand (no hatchet found yet) to cook all of the moose, thankfully I had 6 burners otherwise I wouldn't have been able to do it.. In the few trips up and down the hill from the Lodge, I also went for a memento cache, which yielded a 25% condition revolver in the bear's cave. I think this is actually a fixed memento cache location for the region. I also left some clothing and a full compliment of rabbit snares for when I return to the Hunting Lodge for crafting and forging. I feel pretty confident that the Maintenance Shed is a superior location for forging and crafting than that Ruined Homestead in my least favourite region.
I then tried to make the trek to Forsaken Airfield, but I only made it through the first set of tunnels to the Far Range Branch Line. By the time I got to the other side, and saw that I had to either descend by rope, or stairs, there was a blizzard going, and I realized that I was in for a much longer trip than I was geared up for. I was down to one last torch, so I decided to go back and head for Milton instead, hopefully to beef up my gear, clothes and supplies, before retrying the journey. As a side note, I discovered that there is a difference between a "memento cache" and a "memento hint". The "hints" are just locations of interest, like the route to Forsaken Airfield being open, which you would only notice if you had visited the spot previously when it was closed off by an impassable ravine.
Forlorn Muskeg is nbd if you're just heading straight across. There's another alternative from Broken Railroad, if you're feeling intrepid, but I don't recommend it until you have more gear: Forsaken Airfield.
The HELL you say...

... so I did exactly this next, to head for Milton from Broken Railroad, and the region which shall not be named, as always, tried to kill me and came damned close. I first considered swinging by the Ruined Homestead to look for a hammer, but I thought...
"No way, that's how you end up dead... detours" and opted to go to the hunter's blind on my way to the entrance to Milton through the basin... the absolute fastest possible route out of the accursed region, I was hoping for a hatchet in the Hunter's blind... no such luck, but no skin off my nose, since its right on the way anyway... so I head up the frozen stream towards the waterfall, again... staying to the tiny northwest corner of the map... which is even low odds for wolves, but of course, I promptly get attacked by a wolf, used up all my bandages, lichen wraps and painkillers left, then, as if on cue, a ridiculously strong headwind sets in, which empties my warmth meter and slows my walking to a crawl. By the time I got to the waterfall I was freezing and had to spend a night in the "shortcut" cave at about 11% life left

. The next morning, instead of using the cave under the waterfall (since I was down to 6 matches and had no lantern or torches left) I had to walk across, and shimmy up that narrow path to the entrance to Milton basin... long story short, I made it to Milton, found the distress pistol in the crashed truck and was able to climb up one rope, spend the night in the cave then climb the second rope to reach Paradise farm the next day. Home sweet Milton

. Its been pretty smooth sailing since.
The new Aviator's Cap is great; good cold, wind & water resistances. The downside is it uses leather for repair instead of cloth. I found some of the new Acorns too, but I haven't used them for anything yet.
I've found 2 aviators jackets in this run, both in Milton, one at Mackenzie's plane crash and they are sweet. They give awesome benefits and they look really cool on my character in the "dress-up" menu. He looks like Maverick from Top Gun

. I found the aviator's cap in my prior game, in the Paradise Farm truck, but no hat this time around. Also no pistol at the plane crash and no hatchet anywhere around Gray Mothers. After several days in Milton, I finally found 2 hatchets on the same day/outing. One was in the Ranger station in Milton Park, and the other was next to a dead body right outside the crashed prison bus. The other nice thing I've managed to do is get the transmitter tower completely fixed... although I forgot to turn the switch to the "ON" position, so I will have to climb all the way back up there to do that

. Not a big deal though, because i still have to go all the way to Forsaken Airfield to get the radio first anyway. Another nice benefit, was that the radio tower location is a "vista" location that allows you do do a special, superpowered charcoal survey that essentially reveals the entire region map in one fell swoop. So that was very convenient.
Milton has been an absolute motherlode BTW. It was so lean when I chose to start here, but in this run, where I actually travelled there instead, it has been a loot'ey as I remembered it used to be. I arrived in Milton with only 6 matches left. Part of why I was forced to leave Broken Railroad was that my revolver was down to 5% and I was almost out of matches after traveling to Far Branch Line. I had no choice but to migrate at that point. Since arriving in Milton though, I am swimming in loot, tools and gear. I pretty much have all the essential tools, with multiples of some, extra ammo, and so many matches, that I can afford to start leaving books of matches in strategic locations for later. I've read a bunch of the skill books and leveled up in a few categories. The Orca Gas Station was absolutely ridiculous with loot, with tons of food, coffee, a lantern, and Go juice. I also found an emergency stim in one of the random Milton house bathrooms.
I've looted almost all of Milton, the only major sites left are on the northern side, ie the section from the Trailer to the Falls Bridge cars, and all the cars and caves along the way. There is also a memento cache on or near the bridge so I will have to go for a round with the bear again. This time I have a rifle though, so I think I can take him, ninja-bear or no. Once I finish looting Milton, I will have to choose between going back to make a run at Forsaken Airfield, or doubling down on stockpiling gear first, with a trip to Mystery Lake, or going for the Moosehide satchel in Hushed River Valley. Fully geared up, the satchel run is probabaly about a 3 day excursion, assuming that you don't run into any major problems like getting mauled or lost. I have no idea how long it is going to take to get to Forsaken Airfield and back, so I have no idea how much food to take. I can't take much moose meat, because that is going to attract wolves.
