What was your favourite this year? Post and comment on others!:goodjob:

These are the games I most enjoyed playing this year, some of them were not released this year (one is 10 years old).

Mount&Blade
Knights of the Old Republic (I didn't get it until this year and while Mass Effect is good KoToR is more memorable outside the main story).
Fallout 3 GOTY edition :p
Borderlands
Dynasty Warriors 6 + Empires for filling two weeks where I didn't have itnernet for 9 days and good bonding time with my roommate.
King of Dragon Pass (1999 :p)
Team Fortress 2
Left 4 Dead 1 & 2
Saints Row 2
Europa Universalis III and Hearts of Iron II and all of their expansions.

and while I havn't played it yet (I will sometime next year, I need to finish off several games first and make room on my hard drive) Dragon Age Origins has been very entertaining to watch.

Empire: Total War was my greatest heartbreak ever.

I'm going to say Dragon Age: Origins, just because there's nothing better. It's still a good game but probably not GOTY material due to the repetitive gameplay, though the characters are likable and the plot is attractive enough to warrant putting up with the flaws to see it to the end. Arkham Asylum runs terribly on my PC; seems like a solid game, but no comment on that. L4D2 isn't enough to warrant a separate game. Haven't gotten enough of a feel of HoI3 to say anything definitive about that. Assassin's Creed 2 is so very boring, but its acronym makes me want to dig out Armored Core 2 and play that; so there's a positive, I guess. Modern Warfare 2 is bad. Haven't played the sequel to the Penny Arcade adventures yet, if the second episode came out in 2009 (can't remember, too lazy to check).

L4D, Oblivion, Mount & Blade, Rainbow Six: Vegas 2, and GTA:San Andreas. I think GTA:San Andreas won.

Honorable mention to TF2, but those updates took too long to roll out.

Are you the citizen of some country whose year begins in March, or something similar?

No, but those were my GOTYs. The games I played in 2009 that were the most fun. (Which reminds me to include Rainbow Six:Vegas 2.)

To be honest, I've bought only a single 2009 game on release this year (Spore:GA, and only because I still believe Spore has some potential).
I kind of got burned buying full price in 2008 (Spore, Colonization good but not awesome, etc...), until the Steam xmas sales.

Of these, not a one sincerely impressed me (demos or description):

Fallout 3
Left 4 Dead 1 & 2

My favorite games of the year were Borderlands, Dawn of Discovery, and despite its many flaws, CodMW2. My pick for GOTY would have to be Borderlands. I had a REALLY good time with that game!

Empire: Total War was my greatest heartbreak ever.

I liked Empire, at least once it was patched, anyway. Every man to his own, I suppose.

Still wouldn't be a game of the year, though.

My list:
MODERN WARFARE 2: I loved single player, and I don't go online so I missed that particular disapointment.
THE SABOTEUR: It's brilliant, simple as that.

Probably Dragon Age: Origins. I didn't buy many games in 2009 nor did I spend that many hours on this one, but it blew me away when I tried it :)

It's great to see everyone having a different GOTY:goodjob:

Mine is probably COD2, HOI2

Killzone 2, though only for the online stuff, the campain was a bit meh.

Dragon Age: Origins.

But the graphics are underpar with todays' games (AC2, COD4, Demon's Souls, ME, ME2, Fable II etc.).

Still, the storyline is compelling, the world immersive and gameplay uber addictive.

Civilization IV: Beyond the Sword with the following mods:
Rise of Mankind (RoM)
A New Dawn (AND)

check my sig for links. :)

I have wasted spent way too many hours on Civ4 with these mods. I can't be bothered to play BtS without these mods anymore.
I just bought 3 copies of Civ4 The Complete Edition on Steam for ~$13 each. One each for me, my woman, and oldest son (9y/o).
