What would happen... IF

The debris would rip it apart.

It flew in the UK first, before the war. So Hans got to see Frank's efforts. The prototype aircraft of 1939 was called the "midget" or something like that?

Nah, the He138 (von Ohain's prototype developed with Heinkel) was the first flight by a turbojet powered aircraft (August 27th, 1939).

Frank Whittle was the first to register a patent for the turbojet engine in 1930.
Frank Whittle demonstrates a working prototype jet engine in 12th April, 1937.
The first plane to use a Whittle engine (Gloster E28/39) flew in 15th May, 1941.

So, Ohain's engine took the sky before Whittle's, but the Whittle engine had already been designed, tested, and confirmed before then. It's impossible to believe that Ohain never heard of, or saw, Whittle's engine before completing his own.

I think it's fair to say that Whittle invented the jet engine.

Well, I didn't just make it up when I quoted "Dr. Hans von Ohain and Sir Frank Whittle are both recognized as being the co-inventors of the jet engine" in my earlier post - that's what all the sources (which you can easily find numerous of them on the internet) say as far as that goes.

Just accept it! You're going to have to share the 'glory' with the filthy wretched Hun! Holding hands with the honorable Herr Hans! There's no way around it! Muhahahahah!!! :p

j/k
