What's the best game ever made? Except civilization?

I second that. I've played so many really good games over the years.

But there has to be one game for you.

Don't you ever find yourself playing a game, and then it's 14 hours later and you realize you're not only late for work, but your shift is over?
For me, RISK II.

i would say warcraft 3 is my favorite. the non-custom games where OK but the custom games really range and are fun to play in most cases

In terms of hours played on a single game, F-Zero X takes first spot by a long way. It probably even beats Civ 3 or Civ 4. In terms of hours played on a game series, Pokemon.

Most fun game I've ever played is definately Super Smash Bros. Melee, thanks to having 4 GameCube controllers.

And I'l mention Super Mario 64 just because it has to be mentioned.

I'd say either Diablo 2 with expansion, or Heroes of Might and Magic 3! both are perfect.

EDIT: How can I forget Counter Strike

Oh, that is difficult!

Action/Adventure: The Secret of Monkey Island
First-person shooter: Doom 2
Simulations: Star Wars: TIE Fighter
Strategy: Starcraft

These are all games I would rate 10/10. A hell of fun, and I still play them today.

My all time favorite game is System Shock 2. It has eveything I like about games in my favorite genre.

I don't think I could name the best game of all time without extensive thought about it.

Very hard to decide on just one... so I'll give a short list:

Diablo II
Neverwinter Nights
C&C Series (except Red Alert 2)
Final Fantasy Series
Star Wars: Knights of The Old Republic

C&C Series (except Red Alert 2)

huh? Red Alert 2 was better than the first one.....

I never got that far into the Tiberian storyline, but Red Alert 2 was better than the second one anyway

It was just severely lacking.. that and there was quite a few things about the setting that just made it hard to enjoy.

1) The game is based sometime in the 1970's - 1980's... how the hell is Einstein STILL alive? The same goes for Tanya.

2) In the original C&C the huge advance in technology between Tiberian Dawn and Tiberian Sun can be caused by the introduction of tiberian on eart. However, there is no explanation as to why they suddenly have time travel, "prism technology", etc. in just 40 years.

3) If your going to be basing maps on a city that your customers LIVE in.. atleast try to get the major details correct.

4) Skirmish games were just boring. Telsa Coils and Prism towers are way to powerful. Just set up a nice defense.. leave for an hour or two.. and come back when the enemy is out of resources. No fun to it.

5) The allied ending was AWFUL. Actually, all of the mission briefings sucked. What happened to the original Red Alert? Where people got poisoned and there was actually SOME character development.

There are many others, but I'll stop there.

I'll give you that one, makes sense

thats easier to explain... you see the whole thing was caused by Einstein going back in time and killing Hitler, all that would have to be done would be simply building on that project, Prism, if they could invent time travel, they can make giant bug zappers

3) If your going to be basing maps on a city that your customers LIVE in.. atleast try to get the major details correct.

another give up

whatever enemy you were fighting was too easy then... waves of conscripts combined with Kirov bombings might take care of that defense... and if you left, once they stopped getting attacked they should have nuked you

5) The allied ending was AWFUL. Actually, all of the mission briefings sucked. What happened to the original Red Alert? Where people got poisoned and there was actually SOME character development.

the only problem i had with the allied ending was that I prefer myself as a Soviet General, Americans in moscow irked me a bit, the briefings were a bit more realistic for me, during wartime you cant just start going around and killing everyone who works for you.... besides, Yuri killed both Romanov and Vladimir, that was plenty bloodshed

Heroes of Might and Magic III. The only game i can play over and over again, year after year. Always fun. :D

also, strider, i apologise if you took my response as hostile, I just read it and it came across that way to me

I was just in the mood to explain that game :p

Action/Adventure: Sonic Adventure 2: Battle
First-person shooter: Call of duty
Simulations: Simcity
Strategy: Starcraft
Sports:SSX 3
RPG: Ex-equo FFVII and Baldur's gate 1 and 2
Racing: Grand Turismo

Baldur was alright, I just couldnt really get into the storyline for it...

speaking of that, still waiting for an update raisin

Call of Duty Series, Starcraft, Pokemon for kids :p, Diablo 2, Destroy All Humans series for being damned hilarious, Carmen Sandiego also for kids, Civilization 3 and 4, maybe Rome: Total War, American Conquest, Empire Earth (And Art of Conquest, in other words, the first 2), Simcity 4, possibly Emperor:RotMK, and Age of Empires II. I'm mostly a strategy fan. :D
