What's your country like?

I've been to New Orleans, Redmond and San Antonio. The only curry I had was the dodgiest Thai curry ever which arrived at the table about 2 minutes after ordering it, my colleague was sick outside after eating his meal.

In Hawaii there's LOTS OF CURRY HOUSES/RESTURANTS. And most of them are authentic. Not like the crap in the mainland:D :D

I didn't see any curry restaurants when I was in America... what's all that about?

It's bizarre: every run-down motel in America is owned by Indians, and none of them have thought to open a restaurant. I cook curry for my family when I go home and they just rave about it.

It seemed all the Indian guys were too busy driving taxis when I was there, but they couldn't recommend a curry house to my other colleague who was Indian and could speak the language (Urdu, I think). They also took us to the worst lap-dance club ever.

I grew up in a tiny Ohio town (metro area 40,000) that was maybe 96% White...and we had two curry resteraunts, run by indians who did just that (ran hotels...but added a resteraunt to their building).

USA

Pros:
Days since major city last annihilated: 720 (and counting!)

World's highest per capita incarceration rate

Our illegal detainees enjoy luxurious beach front accommodations

Our illegal detainees enjoy waterboarding, which I can only assume is some new and exciting variant of traditional surfing

Every time I worry that my life is hollow and without meaning, my benevolent corporate overlords remind me to Drink Budweiser/Buy Cars/Watch TV/Ask my doctor about happy pills/Consume crappy fast food. Where would I be without them?

Western worlds largest population of creationists.

Its a large country (which is nice for travelers since we can't really travel abroad anymore because we are just toooo popular).

We get to eat fruit out of season.

An infallible system of democracy that is so perfect, it doesn't even matter who gets the most votes!

cons:

Women have the vote
There are gays here
There are minorities here
There are catholics/jews/muslims/hindus/other icky heathens here
Slavery is no longer legal, but abortion is
Our military doesn't have enough money or bombs.

*please note e-sarcasm*

Looks like we both post lots of crap then Catharsis, result!

We offered to buy Manchester's permanent rain cloud off them but they wouldn't sell it to us, and they shot our best trained thieves on sight. At least we have a beach.

Norway:
Pros:
Rich
Small and insignificant
Not very corrupt
Rich
Great nature
International peacemonger.

Cons:
No Culture worth speaking off beyond Ibsen and a minor few others
Small and insignificant
Cold, in more than one sense of the word

Costa Rica:

Pros: Beautiful Beaches, beautiful women, nice mountains, lots of nature (animals, plants and stuff). Relatively stable, safe environment. Most people are nice, relatively good living standard.

Cons: Potholes in the streets, poverty of some people, transportation services suck big time. Very high inflation. Socialist idiots trying to turn us into the next Venezuela.

I would like to live in Australia (Cool beaches and nice women, I've heard) or in Germany (Been /lived there several times, greatest beer on Earth) , Spain (Motherland) or some other country in Europe.

PROS

Yes, the women and the beaches are great - however watch out for the white pointers.
So is the weather, depending on where you live - although could do with more rain.
Cities are clean with good amenities - although some are a bit sterile/boring (Perth, Adelaide and Brisbane).
Beer is great (with the exception of certain Queensland and NSW beers which are crap), wine and food are great and cheap by world standards.
People are friendly - except to aboriginals, particularly in Queensland.
Great sporting culture and amenities - if some what ungracious in victory or defeat.
Unique flora and fauna - including an abundance of venemous snakes and spiders.

CONS

A bloody long way from anywhere!

California

Pros: Mediterranean climate, very bearable, sense of community coming together in times of crisis, some of the best colleges across the country, a diverse stock of people (so you aren't stuck with all fundies or all hippies, or all one-race), wonderful music scenes, GDP

Cons: susceptible to natural disasters, subject to ridicule from the other 49 states, surfers, people complaining about illegal immigrants without end, unfocused and excessive activism

Switzerland

Pros
  • rich / low unemployment / high standard of living / low crime
  • good social security / health care
  • beautiful scenery (the alps, mainly)
  • there's probably no country where people have as much direct influence in politics as here
  • while people are not as openly friendly as in the US, but once you get to know them they're quite a nice bunch.
  • cheese :D
  • very good public transportation

Cons
  • almost 30% voted for the SVP
  • our climate is rather unspectacular (unless you're in the alps almost no snow in winter and in summer it rains much too often)
  • Expensive
  • culturally we're rather unimpressive (I'm speaking of literature, music, etc)
  • we're only average at most sports (except sailing )
  • conscription
  • isolationism

high and ancient culture and art(most of french culture is a copy of italian one)
people are friendly and we love big parties(french are arrogant and cold compared to us)

con
the majority of people is racist(like in the most of western countries) and too much curious
we have mafia
the government is mafia(Berlusconi, Prodi and Calderoli)
high taxes
4 milions of immigrants(stupid abdullah)
public italian school(i hate it)

Kind of like England, except we can't speak our own language properly, we have a wider variety of climates, and are much less passive-agressive, replacing it with flat-out rudeness and bloody-mindedness.

Bulgaria

Ireland

Pros

Wealthy
Relatively safe crime-wise
No natural disasters
No far right parties
Religion being abandoned
Will never (for all intents and puropses) be in a war

Cons

Inept Govt
Lots of "ignorant" racism, not based on hatred but stupidity
Appalling at almosty every sport
Average house in Dublin costs €450,000, so while the country has got rich, houses are unattainable for most
Health system is worse than most third world countries
Appallingly unequal distributuion of wealth
Older generation have extremely negative outlook

The Netherlands, but mainly where I live myself, which can hardly be considered part of the netherlands...

Pros:
Rich
Good infrastructure
Temperate climate
No mountains to have to climb
People have certain healthy habits, like cycling, eating 'ontbijtkoek' (a healthy untranslateable kind of cake) etc.
We eat 'drop' (liquiorice or something in english)
We eat 'hagelslag' (chocolate sprinkles) on our bread.
We eat peanutbutter
Usually a tolerant country
A small country so you can get anywhere you want, if you really want to
Reasonably good schools where you don't have to do a lot
Internet connection is good
A lot of TV channels to choose from
Cons:
Semi legal soft drugs. In my town, there's a huge store where drugs is sold, and it attracts A LOT of french and belgian tourists, which significantly increases crime and annoyance etc...
Complete lack of any kind of rational nationalism except when it comes to sports
Racist idiots in the government (Geert Wilders)
Ignorant people who live in rural areas who follow the racist idiots in the government
Government discriminating my part of the country (the only road that requires a fee to drive in the ENTIRE country, is the tunnel that connects where I live with the rest of the netherlands (we're separated by a sea arm). There's no land border, so either we have to pay for that tunnel or we have to drive trough Belgium, just to get into the rest of the country....)
Very bad healthcare
lots of tiny rules and regulations and beaurocracy etc...
Bad public transportation in my part of the country (biggest city without a train station), anywhere else public transportation is good but expensive
Boring climate. Hardly any snow days, LOTS of wind and always a boring temperate climate with rain and clouds. But that's better than a continental climate I guess...
