I'm kinda bored so I thought: "Why not ask these CFCers out there some question?" So here we go. Out of the six classical orders for columns, which one is your favorite? Here you got pictures of the 6 of them so you can pick your favorite one.

Greek orders:

Doric order:

Everyone knows that Ionic es numero uno. You disagree? Communist.

EDIT: Despite the troll nature of this post, I actually do favor Ionic columns over the other varieties. They're magestic-looking, unlike Doric, without being overly complicated, like the Corinthian columns are. The Aeolic columns just seem to be copying the Ionic, and I don't like Romans.

I like the doric. I like architecture that's not utilitarian and has interesting features, but is not too busy either. Not too elaborate.

I don't really care for either Volutes or Acanthus ornamentation in the capitals of columns, which eliminates the Aeolic, Ionic, Corinthian, and Composite order options. (Actually I kind of like the less flattened volutes in artistic representations of the Aeolic, but in photographs actual Aeolic columns look very unattractive.) I prefer the alternation of metopes and triglyphs of the Doric instead of the continuous frieze of the Ionic. However, I also prefer the bases and overall proportions of the Ionic over the Doric.

I ended up compromising and choosing the Tuscan. If the column is to be painted or plastered I would insist on fluting (which this order almost always lacks), but a plain column is fine if made out of a particularly attractive stone.

I tend to think we give too much emphasis to Classical Greek columns. I often prefer Egyptian, Persian, Minoan, or Chinese column designs.

@IdiotsOpposite: The Aeolic isn't copying the Ionic. The earliest surviving Aeolic are from the same period as the earliest surviving Ionic, but many experts think that the Aeolic was actually an earlier design that evolved into and was replaced by the Ionic.

Tuscan's elegant and dignified simplicity.

I've always liked Ionic, personally.

Ionic is where it's at.

Composite Order for me. I like the smooth surface and the intricate design at the top.

I prefer the Doric ones. They just look cleaner. The ionic ones look a bit silly.
