When will this happen?

Racial definition is stupud, please. We're all humans and that's the only thing that matters. I find it very ironic that americans don't like people going to their contry to have a better life.

Then humans are stupid. But the brute fact is that racial definition is still an incredibly powerful force not only in America but also in the rest of the world.

I dated a girl once that used to call me white boy. I didn't understand it, I told her that she was white too. She said that she was Puerto Rican and that Hispanic people aren't white. I argued with her and said that Hispanic people are from Europe and are as White as any European, but it didn't get me anywhere. I still consider Hispanic people white.

I'm Puertorrican, and I look as white as any American.

well if you would look at there skin then maybe you can tell they would never be white! man your so silly

many latino people look completely white, down to blue eyes and blonde hair. This can happen even when their parents visually conform to your uneducated view of what it means to be latino (or "hispanic" as the OP termed it)

whether we are white or not has little to do with ending the immigration mess I think.

I'm both latino and white I guess.

on aside: my state is planning on passing a law that says if you are an illegal immegrant (read mexican) that even if you have a child on US soil, your baby will ALSO be an illegal immigrant.

That's not the state's decision to make.

Oh, and as for the OP, I don't really care. If it's imperative that I describe someone's ethnicity, the word "white" isn't going to be the end of the description anyway.

Hey any hispanics out there? And you whitefolk too. When do you think, if ever, Hispanics (perhaps mexicans would be a better word) will be regarded as white in the USA? I would guess one or two generations. Just curious as to when we can expect this whole immigration panic to end. Thanks.
I go more by skin color than ancestry.

So white people are "white".
Black people are "black".
Asians are "Asians".
And so on.

Seems to work well for me.

I can't speak for the rest of the country but, I will say this; I am half-white-mexican and I have never felt discriminated against ever. It just doesn't come up.

40% of 1st generation Americans of Mexican decent who were married in the state of California between the years 1990 and 2000 married someone who marked themselves down as "White" on the 2000 census. This is in fact the same rate as 1st gen. Italians in the 30s.

So I take it being Mexican will be a lot like being Italian and the White people in the Southwest will be a lot like the White people in the South (er old south)

What I mean to say is 40% of Southerners claim to be at least 1/8th Native American. I wouldn't be surprised if the Southwest went the same way.

If The Economist is right ( the magazine) Mexico will have it's GDP per head somewhere around 38 to 70% of the U.S.'s GDP per head in 20 years and the rate of immigration % wise from Mexico to the U.S. will be around double the rate Canadians % wise.

The number of Americans living in Mexico will swell from 3 million to over 10 million with a large number of Americans moving to Mexico to retire.

I don't know how it is for the rest of my American Pisas but in Vegas there really is all most zero racism that I can see. Prejudice yes but not out and out discrimination or Racism.

P.S. incase you were wondering the rate of Protestantism among Latinos in America is over 25% and rising every year as Catholicism declines but, not faster than nonreligious or Atheist/Agnostic thou. P.S.S. Buddhism/Taoism is rising slightly faster among the Latino communities compared to the nation at large.

I added that because of this definition of "white"http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/White_Anglo-Saxon_Protestant

...... not that anyone really goes to church where I live thou.

I don't know when, but i advocate this.

on aside: my state is planning on passing a law that says if you are an illegal immegrant (read mexican) that even if you have a child on US soil, your baby will ALSO be an illegal immigrant.

anyone need toilet paper? oh theres the constitution, use that!

Kind of silly, considering the fact that such a law is blatantly unconstitutional.

i never seen a latino with blond hair or blue eyes that didnt have any sorts of white blood in them such as spanish blood or german blood.

I guess you have never meet an Argentinean then huh? Or been to Mexico? There are lots or blonds and read heads in Mexico, they happen to be well off usually and rarely come here thou.

wait ...... never mind what hygro said. Latino is a culture group ( or ethnicity in an Anthropological sense) but not a ethnicity or race in the colloquial sense. If you are trying to say Mestizo then just say that. Claiming that European looking latinos are not latinos is ********. Hell even the Spanish call themselves latinos.

errr ...... basicly the only people who accept the term latino and generally identify with it are people who speak Spanish or Portuguese ( or had ancestors that did) It is perfectly normal to find a blond in Mexico. It is not normal to find a blond Mestizo ..... in fact my grandmother is the only one I know of http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mestizo ....... dude seriously we learned about this in middle school in America no less.

Oddly enough, I also have been corrected by a Puerto Rican girl for saying she was white. Interesting.
