If historic events are anything to go by, today is the date of the Battle of Cannae (216BC), where Carthage defeated a large Roman army.

It's not like there can be more than one religious civ...
True - and I wouldn't be surprised if Isabella I of Castile (assuming it is this Isabella) and Jadwiga had some sort of religious bonus in their Leader Unique.

But many people here seem to claim that, for a religious civilization, only these (plus Arabia sometimes, which I also agree would fit very well as a religious trade civilization) come to mind.
Which is surprising considering, well, India! [emoji14]

If I had to guess, I'd say: India will be the religious civilization, maybe with Arabia as a second pick. Spain, Germany, and Poland will focus on completely different stuff, but might have religious bonus with their leaders, assuming they were known for their piety. :)

THIS.

I really hope India and Arabia will get the best religious bonus in the game this time around. They were nations where major cults were born (especially India).
It was weird enough that, in Civ 5, the great organized religions ended up being founded by... the Celts

Though a religious civ is might be reasonable speculation, I still think there is no evident that the civ this week is a religion-focus one.

It's a guess. The stream is likely to be related to religion, as:
- Big religion reveal was promised for around this time.
- The stream is going to start from founding a religion.

With this, chances are high what the civilization revealed and used in game is religion-focused.

Another guess by leandrombraz:

I guess they want to explain how religion works before announcing a religion focused Civ, so we know exactly what their bonus is about.

Yes, that's possible too. But knowing how developers presented information so far, I would expect them presenting religious civilization with its abilities, but without explaining how exactly they work. So we could spend our time between civilization announce and the stream doing guesswork.

Considering Ed Beach said they'll show the founding of a religion, i think revealing Spain would be appropriate.

I'm leaning towards India over Spain.

My feeble, shaky reasons:
1) They're on turn 45 just about to found a Religion. India gave birth to multiple religions and Spain hasn't founded any.
2) They've already released England and France - that's enough Western Europe civs for now. India fills a nice gap in the global coverage of released civs.

Brazil!!! NO WAY! hahaha who saw that one coming?

I feel a little dumb for not thinking of this, as the Olympics are starting this week!

I have learned something. Firaxis sure loves their sports.

Didn't England also come out during a sporting event that was happening that week?
