Which civs would you like to see in the possible next expansion?

Hungary has a very distinct culture, while Austria is basically Germany. I would have found Austria an uninteresting pick, especially since we've seen it in Civ V. We've also seen Venice in Civ V. And Portugal isn't a must-see civ because we already have Brazil. Yes, you can question Brazil and say that Portugal should be included, but Brazil is the pulprit here, not Hungary.

I agree. We don't need Mayans in the game because we already have the Aztecs. Adding the Inca is stupid because we already have Mapuche.. We don't need Ethiopia because we already have Nubia. No need for Celts because we already have Scots, Germans and French. Italians and Byzantines? Don't need them, Rome exists...

As for the serious part of this post: I'd posit that Austria actually deserve inclusion MORE than Germany. Germany as a country didn't exist until Bismarck unified all the German fiefdoms under the one ironclad banner. Before this point, "Germany" consisted of small city states and kingdoms, which were being slowly eaten by the Prussian Blue Blob. Austria, on the other hand, controlled the Holy Roman Empire for centuries, held massive influence for pretty much all of the late medieval, rennaissance and enlightenment periods and was (briefly) the geographically largest country in Europe after their personal union with Hungary. Opera, dance and theatre? Perfected in Austria. They are hands down the best culture AND diplo civ choice from western-Europe, yes, including France.

They absolutely deserve to be put in the game. It's not a disaster that they aren't (their fault for not being Greek!), but come on.

You almost had me triggered there!

I still can't quite get my head around Brazil being in and Portugal not. It's like if they added the US but not England :crazyeye:

Austria didn't control the HRE, the Habsburgs did. Austria didn't exist as a country until 1918.

Even if the leaker hadn't mentioned a 3rd expansion, I'd still think the chances for it are really good since we've only just passed the 2nd anniversary recently, even with Gathering Storm we'd still have less civs than Civ V, and there are still many big civs missing. I can imagine that it could have a focus on colonies, vassals, and economic victories.

Assuming the 2nd leaked list is correct, here's my choices for the 3rd expansion (since GS may not have an even split of 4 returning and 4 new civs I'll include more returning choices in this too).

1. Ethiopia
2. Maya
3. Babylonia / Assyria (Leaning towards Babylonia since they're the only 1 from Civ 1 not in yet but I've heard good things about Assyria too. I'd prefer both.)
4. Byzantine
5. Portugal
6. Iroquois
7. Dahomey (I'm happy that Hungary and Maori from my Top 4 brand new civs are showing up so I'm hoping my Top 2 can too!)
8. Tlingit
Alt Leader: Egypt, Senusret III is my choice.

I'd also be thrilled if Austria, Navajo, Morocco, Muisca, Madagascar, Vietnam, and Gaul could be included as DLC somehow.

My guess for a third expansion would probably be like this:

1. Portugal
2. Maya
3. Morocco
4. Ethiopia
5. Austria
6. Vietnam
7. Navajo
8. Colombia
Alt Leader: China

It feels a little unbalanced, with too many returning civs, So I am not sure it would actually be right, but I almost feel like it needs this many to hit enough fan favorites of old. I also included the civs I would want to see in a next expansion (Vietnam first and foremost, Navajo, and Colombia, although I would be happy with anything in the 8th slot if everything else as correct.) It feels unlikely that China would get a second leader in the same expansion Vietnam would come in, but China still feels like one of the most worthy countries to get a second leader after India period.

All the better reason why we should get Maria Theresa as the leader of Austria.

I'm quite happy with Hungary.
Austria was only ever a small part of Habsburg territory. Before Bismark unified Germany it had always been seen as part of Germany.
From 1867 Hungary had more self-government than Austria (even down to having its own foreign policy and control of the Honved, the Hungarian armed forces).
Austria itself doesn't merit being a civ.

It would be kinda hilarious if we got Hungary with a Habsburg leader.
I mean the Habsburgs were Kings of Hungary from 1526 onward. Like Charles or Maria Theresia.

Well I never said that Hungary doesn't merit being a civ. And I very well am interested in Hungary if Mattias Corvinus is the leader.
Besides I don't know why Austria doesn't have enough merit because it was technically in two games already. I also want Maria Theresa back, and so that would be the only option, and I don't think she would make since as a leader for Hungary or Germany.
Ideally I would want both and another expansion could make that happen.

My wishlist for a potential third expansion:

Babylon - Hammurabi
Maya - Lady Six Sky
Portugal - Joao I.
Madagascar - Ranavalona I.
Burma - Anawratha
Austria - Maria Theresa
Denmark - Margaret I.
Byzantium - Justinian I.

Second Leader for Spain (Isabella I.) or Egypt (Amenhotep I.)

No to the Sioux please. I rather have the Iroquois return than the Sioux.

I don't want the first Amerindian Civ from the US in Civ6 to be a buffalo-hunting, tipi-living Plains Indian people. It's so stereotypical. Give me the Choctaw, Powhatan, or the Iroquois.
Yeah, CIV 6 could go bold and pic a NA Tribe like the Kwakiutl

They've never picked a tribe from the PNW like the Haida or Tlingit.

Tonga Empire (alternatively Samoa) as my most wanted civ.
Maya
Inca
Mali
Ethiopia/Abyssinia
Turkish Empire (As opposed to a single dynasty)
Inuit (the ultimate niche civ)
Assyria
Babylon
Muisca Confederacy
Roma tribe

~ Honorable mentions to Portugal, Tamil, Iroquois, and Nigeria.
*Won't bother listing Tibet, as that isn't going to happen. :(

Indeed, like Lady Six Sky for the Maya!
Well this list is obsolete now, so I'll redo it with a potential 3rd xpac in mind...

Maya lead by Lady Six Sky
Ethiopia lead by Eleni
Inuit lead by Ekeuhnick
Assyria lead by Ashurbanipal
Babylon lead by Hammurabi
Muisca lead by Nemequene
Roma lead by Ștefan Răzvan
Portugal lead by Maria I
Iroquois lead by Jigonhsasee
Vietnam lead by the Trưng sisters

That would also put five new female leaders into the game...On that note, I would want the new alt leader to be for China, Empress Dowager Cixi, making that six new female leaders.

Assuming the leaked civs are accurate, I'll also speculate on what we might see in a potential third expansion:
  1. Portugal*
  2. Maya*
  3. Byzantines*
  4. Babylon*
  5. Ethiopia*
  6. NA native tribe (Tlingit would be awesome, but maybe a more conventional pick like the Sioux, Comanche, or Apache; unfortunately, the Cree seemingly nudge the Iroquois out due to similar design)
  7. Vietnam (East Asian representation and high fan demand)
  8. Mughals (I think they'd be an awesome new addition and would give the Indian subcontinent more nuance, which it deserves)
  9. Ramesses II of Egypt for alt leader
I don't think Carthage will make it if Phoenicia is in, as much as I regret that reality. I would also like Morocco to make it in, but there will only be 8 slots probably. I don't think Scotland replaced the Celts, but I wouldn't want a blob civ again. I would, however, welcome the Gauls. Nepal would make an interesting Himalayan civ, which wouldn't have the controversy of Tibet. The Timurids would be cool as well. If we had to suffer another colonial civ, I'd vote for Mexico. Austria would be fine if we had to have two more European civs, though Hungary minimizes the chance of their return somewhat. Of course there's Italy or a city state like Venice/Genoa/Florence... Madagascar would be amazing...

Alright, I'll stop. There are too many civs and too few spaces.

*Civ staple

What are the leaked civs?

The civs are supposedly:

Spoiler :

  1. Inca - Pachacuti
  2. Ottomans - Suleiman
  3. Maori - Kupe
  4. Hungary - Matthias Corvinus
  5. Phoenicia - Dido
  6. Canada - Wilfrid Laurier
  7. Mali - Mansa Musa
  8. Sweden - Kristina
  9. Eleanor of Aquitaine as alt leader for England/France

Ergh ... you're kidding right. Saying Austria is basically Germany is pretty ignorant.

I mean it's the same thing as saying Flanders (not Belgium, but Flanders) is basically Netherlands. It's also ignorant, but the Flemish culture as a separate culture isn't distinct enough to be included in a game when you have over 1000 cultures, while the Hungarian culture is still pretty unique in Europe (look at it's language). Austria and Germany share a lot of it's history (HRE, Third Reich and also German confederation). And Austria and Hungary also share a part of it's modern history (in an empire with multiple cultures, that felt apart due to instability and rising nationalism). Austria and Germany aren't of course the same, but they still share a lot. And of course, Hungary is a fresh choice where Austria isn't, and Austria shouldn't be a staple civ. Clear.
