Which is the “best” Civ (1-6) and why?

Besides, even without "likes", the same thing happens on a forum. Unpopular opinions, if ignored, sink past the first page, rarely / never to reappear. If an unpopular opinion keeps reappearing, it's usually because someone keeps posting it.

There's also a difference between niche / minority, and unpopular. Something can be less populous but not unpopular. Something can be populous but others could still be sick of hearing about it.

The good thing with reddit 'popularity' is that you can gain some even in one day. I am sure people have gotten more karma than my total one (which is modest, just north of 12K) with a single post (typically an OP) in the right community.
Negative karma can deter from sharing some views, but it is also deterring serial-trolling, at least in sizable subreddits.

I haven't told that we "can't" have a constructive conversation on Reddit, I told we couldn't have the current conversation on Reddit because you would be downvoted (or I would be, again there's nothing personal, it's about the principle).

You absolutely can. Getting downvoted doesn't mean you can't.

I could open a topic in the Civ IV subforum about how 1UPT is the best thing ever (hypothetical, not a real opinion of mine). I wonder how long it'd last?

Different communities weight different games in a franchise differently. reddit leans towards the newer games. Somewhere like Apolyton skews older. CFC is a mix, but it still leans older on average.

It can, absolutely. But it also serves as a form of community moderation from bad faith commentary. Again, we're getting very off-topic and I'm not a fan of discussing the pros and cons of moderational styles for hopefully obvious reasons

Now it's true that all social platforms are becoming echo chambers, including forums.

Not really though because while we have likes, CFC displays posts in a thread in chronological order, and threads in chronological order of the most recent post. There's no algorithm filtering what you see based on likes or anything else.

On Reddit, I think a few of its features that make it disadvantageous are that there is no bumping of threads, so consolidating information and continuing discussions is difficult; furthermore, the sorting within threads can vary from day to day as opposed to here where every reply is always in the same order.

I find most algorithmic platforms are best used on their own terms wrt engaging content. But if your subreddit is really niche it’s probably smarter to sort by new.

7 has a strong lead for most greedy Civ, soon they will sell one leader for $10.

maaan I remember when DLCs were a new concept and Civ5 got so much flak for releasing Babylon as a DLC

and Paradox made fun of that by released Babylon as a "free DLC" in an update to Victoria 2
