Which MMORPG should I get?

I was already planning on getting Guild Wars 2 when that comes out, even though I've never owned a single MMORPG in my life. I've played many regular RPGs in my gaming years. I got to test Guild Wars (PvP) at my friend's place. I created a character and did a bit of PvP.. I obviously sucked since I had no good skills to pick for my character, and wasn't too familiar with the game 1st hand. I think I would like PvE more than PvP and I've heard that Guild Wars is lacking in the PvE area, while they are not in the PvP. I also don't like the idea of buying an old game that hardly anyone plays anymore. So don't suggest anything old lol. I was thinking about getting Guild Wars, but wondering if there's anything else I should consider. I don't like the idea of paying to play, keep that in mind too. So which MMORPG should a guy who likes PvE more than PvP get?

Guild Wars is basically the only MMO that isn't subscription-based, so that should be a primary part of your decision. If it's not, I'd just wait until the Warhammer one comes out if you like fantasy, as it should have healthy amounts of both. WoW is essentially PvE that allows PvP, so you might like that one for a little while. I think Warhammer will rock WoW myself. If you like sci-fi, you might like Galaxies or EVE.

Guild Wars is a really good intro type online RPG, and it has no monthly fees. Plus, it's still one of the bigger games out there, it's sold over 5 million copies. I also found the PvE to be quite entertaining until I had beaten each campaign a few times, then the lack of end game stuff really showed through.

If you don't mind grinding there are free MMO's like Rappelz and 9Dragons, I play both of those.

I've talked to someone who has been in the beta of the Warhammer MMO forever now and he has said it's not all that great. Needs a lot of work and polish before it could be considered a good MMO he says.

Ok I'm not totally against paying to play. I just think it sucks. If the game and experience are worthwile then I could see trying it for a month or two. I read up on Warhammer and watched a few vids. It looks pretty good from what I can tell. An appealing thing about it for me is that it's going to be new, and so everyone will suck in the beginning. This will give me a chance to progress with the majority since everyone will be noobs to the game. Except for the 807,000 beta testers! I pay for xbox live as it is. So I guess I'm not totally against the concept afterall. Like I said a second ago though, it sucks. My friend and I might get Warhammer while waiting for Guild Wars 2.. I didn't just want to get Guild Wars 1, because there are too many expansion packs out and it is NOT new.

Well if you don't mind subscriptions, I'd suggest try some free trials of different games to feel out what you like about them. Better than paying the $20 upfront + subscription for something to find out that you hate it rather quickly.

I've heard the same myself. It appears almost certain that Warhammer will be released months before it's ready (like AoC was).

Like every single game that was ever made, and was not free...

Not all games are published equally unfinished. I don't play MMORPGs myself but based on opinions Age of Conan for example was way more unfinished than games on average, and it still lacks both endgame content and some serious bugfixes. I hope Warhammer wouldn't be the same but the rumours aren't too encouraging.

Also, games used to be far more polished at their release before the possibility to distribute patches through internet so I don't agree with the "ever" part of your post.

This. More than 10 million people worldwide can't be wrong right?

I'm a bit biased though. The new expansion coming out end of the year is looking pretty awesome, and they do have a free trial available for download from the website. It's a 10 day trial or something I think.

What Blizzard did with WoW was basically do the same they did with RTS games like Warcraft II and StarCraft and make MMO games accessible to everyone and not mind-numbingly difficult to learn. StarCraft is still better than WoW though, who wants to agree?

I want your computer to catch on fire so you can't post on here anymore.

Obviously, the answer is "none of them."

Obviously, that is not an option since I made a topic called "Which MMORPG should I get"... Which in this case means that one of them will be bought. Some people can't comprehend what they read.

I'm going Warhammer, already talked to my neighbor and he's getting it too!
