I don't know why only in the US it's not a popular sport.
One thing: why when baseball teams, basketball teams and hockey teams win the US championship they say they are world champions?????????????
I don't get it..they could say that if the beat the champions of all the other continents

Football (soccer) is also not very popular in Canada. And we don't say we are the world champions in ice hockey. I didn't know for basketball but I do for baseball. Don't know why. Considering that Japan and some country in latin america can provide very good teams, I don't think is appropriate.

I said it before and I'll repeat it now: FOOTBALL (soccer to you people from the US)

I have said it before and I will repeat it now: UNAMERICAN FOOTBALL is most efficient way to communicate to Americans and non-Americans alike which "sport" you are referencing.

From a purely skills standpoint, I would have to go with ice hockey. The sport I have the most experience with is long distance running which requires skill in judgment on how to pace yourself and selecting the correct moment to take the lead. Any overly ambitious misjudgment in pacing leads to a long & painful conclusion to the race in which you promise your personal God that if He gets you through the race, you will forsake long distance running for one of the more "skilled" sports.

Evereyone's choice in this poll is very relative

That's because when teams win in these leagues NHL, NFL and MLB they are pretty much playing in the best league (as in skill) in the world. Players come from other leagues to join these leagues....making these leagues the highest leagues. So although there may not be a team from every continent...every team has players from every continent. (well...for the most part....)

I voted cricket too. You only have to watch the tail enders (9, 10 and 11) batting to appreciate how hard it is to bat. These guys take their batting seriously (on the whole), are coached, are athletic (on the whole) and get lots of practice….. and yet they are still useless.

And you only get one chance in an innings (ie max 2 chances in a game). One slight mistake and you are out.

And as for bowling straight all day…

And then there’s fielding…

I have to say motorcycle racing in all its forms is probably by far the most demanding sport in the world... unlike auto racing, there is no downforce, traction control, and driver aids to help you around the track. Now what it does involve is hanging on to a bike going 300+km/h, making all the shifts at the right places and sliding it into a corner with precision on a fast line lap after lap. If you fall off, there is a very real possibility of serious injury or death, meaning that concentration is totally vital... not to mention actually competing for the win. In motocross, the danger is probably less than in road racing, but it means that the riders have to deal with thinking about vertical lines as well as horizontal to ride fast. If you have ever seen the Isle of Man motorcycle races (run on extremely fast public roads with houses, trees, etc. mere feet away from the course) you will know what I mean.

Ignorance and over cofidence. But ill try to cover it

Baseball- we invented it, now we claim ownership.
basketball- who could really beat Shaq?
hockey- we do play against Canadian teams ;)

-baseball: you should play against latin american and japanese teams
-basketball: you have a point
-hockey: you and the canadians are practically the only ones who play it, so you have a point there too ;)

There is an annual game bewteen the Japan League all-stars vs. MLB's all-stars. Japan wins most of the time. Its mostly fear and that fact that Latin American baseball isnt organized.

I'm from Australia, and it's not overly popular here. Saying that, the junior development of the game is very big, but maybe that's just because it's not as physical as a lot of winter sports over here...

I was there this year :goodjob: Sadly it was foggy in the mountains so we only saw two laps but it was still good. :)

The sarcasm is thick in this one. I was just pointing out America's baseball inferiority.

 OK.
I don't think there is inferiority..maybe equality
