While We Wait: Part 2

Is it just me, or was that one the stupider arguements that has happened in this forum? I feel that logic and reason were left at the wayside, and that long minutes of my life were wasted typing up reponses to try and keep a pathetically biased and pretentious individual in an internet gaming forum.

:(

EDIT: Well, the problem resolved itself before I could finish typing a thought-through response... perhaps that should tell us something :p I'll leave it up anyway.

You may well be intelligent, but you have not proven yourself to be either civil or unpretentious. Swiss makes a decent point. We do love new players and many of the recent ones have been fabulous. You, however, come in here demanding this and that and expecting people not to react. Its ridiculous the way you try to play the victim as if this was all happening because you are newbie.

To state the obvious, all of us were newbies at some point and quite obviously we felt welcome enough to continue our involvement here. If you do not feel welcome because we won't bow to your ridiculous demands, then that is less our problem, more yours.

Etiquette is for both sides of the fence. Most of us are at best warmly receptive and encouraging, and at best cordially uninterested. However, essentially ever newbie I've ever seen stick around did not immediately get in a fight with people over a minor irritation. They also did not assume that they had the capability to leverage their membership as some sort of effective tool.

A fraternity does not change years of tradition because one pledge demands it. I realize the analogy is somewhat exaggerated, but the point remains the same.

If you would like to continue playing, we would love to have you. This obnoxious victim behavior, however, is best left for OT ;)

Finally, I agree with all of Symphony's points. Change is the Devil and so forth humbug!

I don't think anyone hates lurkers. People hate lurkers telling them what to do. Watch and comment as much as you like, just don't make snide comments about others' playing styles.

It's neither fair, civil nor just; it's utterly useless. There's no way to "ban lurkers" anyway short of making the forum private, and I don't think anyone wants that.

It's really not that complicated. I don't see why you all have to get huffed up about it.

Key point was to get lorgen to compromise, because I knew which way the vote would go and he would have no quarter. The plan was to present cold hard evidence that his say meant nothing, thus ending the ridiculous debate. He didn't take the bait though, obviously realizing he was in the wrong. Therefore I come off looking like an apologist

I also didn't mean anyone hated lurkers, I was referring to spam-fests that some people, players or otherwise, can delve into (particularly referring to this one), some of which end up being the end of a NES.

Yeah, I feel my time has been wasted as well....

now back to my work...

Well, okay. I was just a bit shocked to find people arguing over something so trivial.

Actually, I suppose it happens all the time, but usually it's about an update or some minutiae of diplomacy.

Sadly, I feel that part my life has been wasted as well. A few button clicks and the argument just got a whole lot more schizophrenic though. I wasnt planning it until the 'see you in hell'. Im just laughing because there is no hell in my religion, so I guess I never have to see lorgen again other than in messages saying "This message is hidden..."

Exactly my point. I am not stupid, but since I am new, the Swissempire assumes I am and acts like I am. If I had licked swissempires boots/ass, he/she would have welcomed me. But this forum is dead, you actually have to try to hijack people from other forums, and everyone gets a greeting from these guys and leave.

See, the problem is even if you're not stupid, you're prentenious, you're uncivil and you're arrogant. I wouldn't want you to lick my /ass because getting anilingus for you would be revolting and quite a turn-off.

I am, and we are, very welcoming to new players, as i'm sure they would tell you. You however came in here, told us we should change, told us we were elitist, told us you couldn't stand us and were leaving, and kept coming back as if you expected us to apoligize for not existing to your exacting expectations.

Sorry to inform you but like you're IQ getting above 75, us apologizing to you for not being good enough isn't going to happen.

Ok, this was a punch a little below the belt. But if you have read this thread and discussion, I was Hijacked or Shanghaied, if you like, from the forum games. A game started there, which seemed fun, I joined, and I read how much **** the game-master got at the CIV3 forum, and suddenly the game was moved here. I have already quoted the things that makes me dislike this forum and the attitude on this forum. And I am civil, to those that deserve it, but not to the people of this forum that believes that they are better than everyone else. Sounds like Marie-Antoinette "Oh, why do they ask for bread? Can`t they just eat cakes?"

I`d rejoin the game if it was moved back to forum games, but not in this forum.

AFAIK this game was started in another forum, but forced to move here, so why are you, a non-player, bothering??

1. Marie Antionette never said that, and even if she did you misquoted it

2. This game is a NES. It was placed in the wrong forum. You're the one that has to deal with it, not the rest of us.

EDIT: I have a feeling you won't. I'm done with this.

I know, I'm such a bother. Pointing out all the problems with your arguements and your personality. Shame on me.

And I am civil, to those that deserve it, but not to the people of this forum that believes that they are better than everyone else.

Ahem

you said:
directed at someone you had no qualms with
See you guys in hell

Sounds like Marie-Antoinette "Oh, why do they ask for bread? Can`t they just eat cakes?"

lol, you just compared yourself to Kirsten Dunst.

And what happened to "My final post in this forum: See you guys in hell"

I was looking forward to it:(

and unblocked.

"Oh, why do they ask for bread? Can`t they just eat cakes?"

rather amusing misquotation, though not the best.

I hate to step in at the end and tell you all that you are basically full of it. This "discussion" reminds of a pack of dogs all snarling around a newcomer to the neighbor hood who came in with a bit of chip on his shoulder. Everybody escalating the meeting at the first opportunity.

This is a friendly place. I've been here a year. Those who have been here longer are sensitive about change and new people who might upset traditions. It's common.

lorgen, if you want to give this place a try, I will find a nation in my NES where you can play, but not be required to interact unless you really want to. You can test drive things without being forced to actually communicate. And since about a third of my players are playing their first NES you will be among others who are trying to figure it all out. What do you say?

i had actually logged out for tonight. But I have to reply to this. I appreciate the offer, but I will not play games wit these people. And I have already resigned from one, but thank you for the offer. You have a good heart.

Come on people, leave lorgen be. He is merely a scared conservative reactionary suddenly pulled from his natural home into a new world. Basically, he has suffered severe culture shock just as a hillbilly from the Appalachian back-woods would suffer upon finding themselves in Paris.

Oh, and so the hatred is put in the right place, I am the one that reported the thread to the mods as being in the wrong place and asked for it to be moved.

I tried to be nice...I really did...:(

It's been a crazy day...

oh, and I already knew who reported the NES meself :p

Everyone here has a good heart even if they are afraid to show it. My offer will stand as long as the game is running. And since I don't mind lurkers, lurk all you like (and post too), then when you are ready, just ask and I will find a place for you. :)

The only stupider one that I can think of at the moment is the argument a good while back about the morality of genocide and Hitler. That wasted a hell of a lot of time.

Everyone, please, step back, and realize what you're all saying.

Lorgen, you've barely known us for half a day, and you're swearing off one of the more intelligent and interesting gaming communities on the web: I know, the discussion today was not particularly enlightened, but for one, people are... not on their best behavior in this thread, and for another, the moderators don't usually (probably won't in this case, either) tolerate the attacks that have been flying around. So really, give it a try, or, perhaps, don't, but don't attack a community from a few posts.

Everyone else, for Christ's sake, lay off him. No, we haven't heard the nicest things about the NES community in here, but given how viciously his comments were attacked, I'm not surprised. What ever happened to that civility that most of us had? Calm down. Walk away from the computer for a while. Read a book. Don't say stupid things because of a flash of emotion; it escalates far too quickly.
