While We Wait: Part 2

Symphony - I once again restate this: the diseases would've spread all the same without conquistadors as long as any significant Eurasian group makes any contact (quite possibly peaceful and commercial only) with the Mesoamerican or Andean civilisation.

I've been thinking about a weekly NES based on the Napoleonic Wars. But given that time scale it would probably be just about a single campaign.

I would rather have a great modern NES. It would require multiple mods though. I just wish we had something realistic with the updates being just the major News and the stats or PM's showing the smaller stuff you did. SheepNES failed at realism when he let German navy attack my Spanish navy in the Mediterranean in like 2008. Then of course him letting France and the UK split my country in a war. Totally un funny.

I'm not sure if it is possible for that to work out well.

That said, a proper modern NES would be good, ofcourse.

Maybe you are right. I would give it a shot as my next NES when the current one ends but what I hate is I would not be playing. Which is always my hatred of the modding chore. Then again the only person I trust to do it well would be me. No offense to anyone else. Seems hardly anyone here actually updates anymore besides Das, Bird and I.

the problem with a modern NES is that wars are no longer like WW2 and most of the action would be political or small unit oriented and not on an expansive battlefield. And since nobody knows what a global war would really be like today, the game cannot be realistic.

What do you imagine such a game to be like? What is the game you want to play?

More or less a political game and teaching players that war isn't the only thing NESers do. Domestic stuff to me is major fun. But you could still do military things like advancing weapons and war games and what not. But I think this community needs a good economic and social NES over a war one.

For the record, it is my sincere opinion that Symphony D. should be the one to run such a NES, if only because he will be the one who will end up pointing out the mistakes made by the moderator. Might as well place him in a position where he could do something about it. ;)

That is agreeable. He always has something to say. But maybe he doesn't want to be on the receiving end? Either way I would love to have a modern NES tha is realistic.

Okay, it is possible, but I still think the cons outweigh the pros.

Depends if they get along well and work similar. But the massive undertaking of a modern NES would need either one very talented mod or two average or above average ones. I simply couldn't do a Modern NES in the way I would want one to be modded.

I'm doing my best to get an early twentieth century game going...

How will the stats be? Exact military numbers? Or divisions? Exact economy or a simplified number which works the same for everyone? Issues that need to be dealt with.

If any of you truly believe that I am ready to drop what I'm doing to go and satisfy your desires over my own then those of you in question are terribly deluded and require some form of psychological aide. :)

Well, PureNES is an exception in many cases, but the two mods thing seems to be working quite well there, so I can't agree with you.

Oh, yeah, I didn't really want to bring this up until I had my arguments more prepared, but: running a modern NES with the current number of players available is stupid and more or less doomed to failure regardless. Elucidation in the undetermined future.

We need more people. We need a recruiting and training NES.
