While We Wait: Part 4

Oh come on Zhironovsky sounds awesome. So does Bogdanov for that matter. Hmm...you think they could do a Prime Minster/Vice minister ticket or something?

Gentlemen, I hate to be a Reno, but unless something has changed, just as this isn't the place for a discussion of American politics, this isn't really a place to discuss Russian politics either. It interests me, but the first thread got shut down for talking about American politics. I assume Russian politics are just as dangerous.

The True Pacifism discussion was theoretical, and therefore can be applied to NESes in a roundabout way. It was also interesting. Maybe something more along those lines could be discussed.

To reach those planets will require incredible means of transportation...I'm guessing wormholes. If we have wormholes that can send a settler, it can certainly send an infantry unit! :p

Otherwise, it will probably be an international coalition anyway since its an insane amount of money needed to maintain a space program necessary for interstellar colonization.

Wait this thread is for things like that LB. It is for all things, besides spam. We can talk about politics.

Interstellar colonies will only be attached to Earth as long as they are dependent on it. Once they are self-sufficient, their seperation is inevitable. The status quo may be maintained for quite some time if some smart leaders are in charge, but eventually some minor issue (tax on tea) will be enough to inflame them.

This does not mean, however, that some interstellar governing body is not possible. Anything that does form will be like the Commonwealth of Nations, with Earth as Britain. But, before then, it's all too likely that there will be outright wars of independence as Earth-based political bodies attempt to maintain control over their colonies, with attempts to give more self-governance to colonies coming only once there have been some devastating examples of colonies breaking away.

The problem with a Commonwealth, then, is that Earth will be the center. Earth-based political entities will not be willing to accept anything less. Earth's eventual decline in importance, and the development of the now self-ruled colonies, will see the power balance changed, but no reform will take place until there's been a large and public demonstration of the change in the balance of power.

The nature of this demonstration, whether it's from internal or foreign trouble, will affect the result. If it's foreign, you may see the Commonwealth banding together, and the military commitment of the colonies demonstrating Earth's declining influence over them. If it's internal, then Earth will either accept the new order, or, more likely, take steps to increase control, which will either result in a weakening of the colonies and the Commonwealth as a whole, or a reaction and more power to the colonies, possibly with the independence of some.

Actually, you are wrong. This very issue has been addressed by the mod. Talking about politics is not acceptable. Read my previous post.

Proof.

In short, this is NOT for spam. It is not even a special Off-Topic Thread for NESers. It is, and has ever been, only for discussion related to NESes that doesn't really belong in other threads.

Padma from the Referenced Post said:
If you want to discuss real world politics, etc., we have a whole forum called Off Topic dedicated to that stuff.

Little Boots is correct.

Ok, answer me why you set up a trade post within each of the trade areas, throughout the entire world? Other than to exploit the trade rules?

In response to the abaddon's post in the other thread, I did not have trade posts within each of the trade areas. The ones I did have were in rather worthless areas and were to be the beginnings of a Khmer trade network to cut out Portugal and co. via direct trade with Europe due to the well, unpleasantness of Portugal and co. That coincided with the ascension of a new monarch as well, who as later actions show, disliked Portugal and co. even more than did the previous ones.

The Americas?

I agree Shadowbound, it'll definitely be a changing relationship. It'll simply be interesting to see (though we'll likely be long deceased) the developing interactions between Earth and its' colonies as time goes on, and whether it mirrors the relationships on our own planet.

A lot of it will hinge on sub or faster than light travel. If it's the former, independence will become vastly easier, due to a simple breakdown in communication. If the latter, a unified network of planets, with a variable degree of centralization, seems the most likely outcome.

The Americas?

Southern and Western South America was for that exact purpose; instead of merely bypassing Portuguese trade routes, it would create whole new ones to Europe and cutting Portugal out :p You didn't see me colonizing Northern America for a reason eh?

I am thinking that someone should be a kind of Bismark in SteamNES.

I mean, think, a guy who uses latest technology, assassins, war, trade alliances through rails and war machines to unify Allemony into a Empire! If no one takes that role I will! It'll be so fun! So much ambition and I will spell so bad as Empouror that you will beg me to abdictate!

Why are you such a noob? Its been bloody months and you haven't improved at all. Your'e like the uber noob of all uber noobs.

Why? I can type much better, and I can write stories and send in improved orders and also not rant *yet*.

If you don't beleive me I will post some of them after they are useless.

You know, I always thought I was the biggest noob in existence. But Charles Li can give me a run for my money.

Charles Li may be a bit naieve, but he's quite coherent now in what he says. I think that a Steampunk Bismarck would be very cool, though the time may not have come yet.
