While We Wait: Part 4

could anyone give me advice on how to get excommunicated?

http://www.atheistfoundation.org.au/excommunication.htm

EASY STEPS TO EXCOMMUNICATION

I am an atheist.

I hereby renounce all the trappings of religion.

I renounce all blessings, benefits, graces, sanctifications, and advantages supposedly conferred on me by any religion or by any religious act done by me or on my behalf in the past, present or future.

I condemn as monstrous the idea of original sin, and renounce any baptism done on my behalf to wash it away.

I reject as ridiculous the idea of an atoning sacrifice and spurn its presumed benefits.

I do not believe that any god, supernatural realm or afterlife exists, and will not act as if they did.

I do not believe that any book, building, place, person, thing or action is holy and will not pretend that they are.

I do not think that praying is anything more than talking to oneself and will not make believe that it is.

I do not believe that any person is more sanctified than any other, or that any human being should be elevated above another in any way, due to ancestry, race, gender, occupation, belief or for any other reason and will not feign that I do.

As a principled and rational person, it pains me that someone, somewhere may be counting me as an adherent of an irrational superstition which has done and is doing irreparable harm to humanity and with which I profoundly disagree. Please remove my name from the records of the church, and record that I am no longer a Roman Catholic. Please send me confirmation of this action. Please do this as soon as possible.

Automatic excommunication

There are a few offenses that, in and of themselves, lead to automatic (latae sententiae) excommunication from the Catholic Church:
1. Apostasy (canon 1364),
2. Heresy (canon 1364),
3. Schism (canon 1364),
4. Ordination of female priests (canon ),
5. Desecration of the Eucharist (canon 1367),
6. Physical violence against the Pope (canon 1370),
7. Attempted sacramental absolution of a partner in a sin against the sixth commandment of the Decalogue ("Thou shalt not commit adultery."), when that partner is not in danger of death. (canon 1378 §1),
8. Ordination of a bishop without papal mandate (canon 1382),
9. Direct violation of the sacramental seal of confession by a confessor (canon 1388),
10. Procurement of a completed abortion (canon 1398), or
11. Being a conspiring or necessary accomplice in any of the above (canon 1329).

I recommend burning a bible in the Vatican. Declaring loud public support for Satan and renoucing your faith publicly, and insulting god and the pope. Perhaps carry some insulting banners.

That should be suitable. Let me know how it goes.

What that the Pope is the anti-Christ or that denying transubstantiation would get you excommunicated...

Because if it’s over the first instance I’m not even going to deign to respond, the emoticon should have proved the seriousness of my charge. In the second instance look at the Protestant Reformation, and look at exactly how much Luther and Calvin hated transubstantiation.

@silver 2039

If the Pope was feeling sporting I’m quite sure he would instead refer you to a mental institution, good PR in that ;)

Seeing how he's a Nazi I doubt it. He's liable to have to shot or something.

Believing the Pope to be a Nazi is irrational without having evidence, silver (barring various complex reasons for pragmatic self-delusion). Do you have any rational basis for the belief?

Do you have a rational basis in defending the Pope?

He was a member of the freaking Hitler Youth, by any measure he was a Nazi, its well within the realm of the possible that is still is.

Hmmm true, but then we all know what Nazi mental institutions were like ;)

Fire up the Gas!

He was a member of the freaking Hitler Youth, by any measure he was a Nazi, its well within the realm of the possible that is still is.

My father was a member of the Komsomol, which doesn't make him any less of a neo-liberal. Actually, all Russian politicians of all political stripes were members of the Komsomol; I guess Yeltsin was a communist to the end, then. Likewise, just about every German politician who grew up in Nazi Germany was probably a member of the Hitlerjugend; I guess they were all Nazis, then, rather than Stalinists, liberals, Christian Social-Democrats or whatever. In conclusion, your argument hurts my brain.

There is a plausible argument that I am being biased in automatically defending him, but it has at least been claimed that membership was compulsory. If this claim is not true it makes him much more suspicious, but if it is true then all it shows is that he failed to be a hero. And he was young back then.

Just before peoples start buying into my argument even further I think I should point out that the root of the thing appears to be that Neverwonagame either questioned that transubstantiation is enough to get you excommunicated or that the Pope is the anti-Christ which had a nice big :mischief: next to it which appears to have gone way over his head. I shouldn’t need to back up transubstantiation, nor should I have to back up a joke.

Lets look at what I said about the Pope being a Nazi

Post of First Instance: Masada

Post of Third Instance: Neverwonagame

Post of Fourth Instance: Masada:

Notice that it was meant as a joke? Silver I’m pretty certain was joking I thought he was, Neverwonagame had a go again with something that he totally misread a joke for the second time, not missing a beat I felt I had to respond in suitably sarcastic way which appears to have been misconstrued.

I have figured out two things, one Neverwonagame either A) doesnt understand theology, or B) cant see a joke for what it is.

Or you could just invade the Vatican :p

I did suspect that you were joking, but this is the Internet; I've heard much more ridiculous arguments that, as far as I could tell, were put forward with all due seriousness. So please, use smilies next time - it's how most of us tell the difference. ;)

As to silver2039, random outbursts of militant atheism are just a part of his online persona. I'm not going to place any bets on it being serious or the contrary.

Invading the Vactican would be a rather silly idea, the Swiss guard now actually carry guns :p (they just dress in formal garb for the tourists).

The Catholic does have a proud to tradition to live up in near recent times the Ustache... :p

I have Aspergers Syndrome- it does make it harder for me to detect a joke.

Can you explain why you assumed I did not understand theology?

Invading the Vactican would be a rather silly idea, the Swiss guard now actually carry guns

The Swiss Guards are just cannon fodder. The new top secret Popemobile could probably fight any invasion to a standstill, though.

Anyone who says that Pope Benedict XVI, formerly Ratsinger, was a member of the Nazi Party, because he and every other German youth too young to be conscripted into the military were involuntarily inducted (that means against their own will) into the Hitler Youth, is being an idiot.

Even if you're joking, you're still being an idiot. :p

You mean the Panzer Pope?

It's sort of funny considering that he served in the infantry.
