While We Wait: Part 6

I would assume the ultimate goal of rating NES qualities is to allow people to judge if a particular mod or story is good or bad
...by showing the individual qualities, leaving the reader to aggregate the information and decide for himself? No really, this is a question, because I wasn't listening.

That's a fair portion of NESkind you know...

The traditional version of First Generation is that you had to of played in rtor2... If you didnt play in rtor2 then you werent a First Generation neser. There are only a few of us left.

We're still measuring it temporally, though. By your definition, even if you didn't play in RTOR, if you were NESing at or before that time, one would still be a first generation NESer.

Thats exactly it, by my definition you would of of had been nesing by say Jan 1 2003. Which is when rtor2 was ongoing.... There is a whole thread on it somewhere.

Thank you.

What a bad ass picture, Thlayli.

I almost laughed my ass off when someone mentioned the republican party, because it reminded me nothing of it.

Reminds me of the classic good vs. evil fight, and we men are just riding out the storm. I'm sure this is what it's trying to depict, anyways.

And that's about as useful as dating by the foundation of Rome. Times change.

Not quite mate, Just because time has moved on does not make people who were in the 2nd or 3rd generation before hand like yourself North King automatically in the first generation.....

Times do change, but generations continue to come. This does not change the generations of the past.

Vladimir Lenin + Hellsing + Escape From New York = omglolwhut

Thats pretty cool.

Escape from Petrograd?

I agree. I'm pretty sure that pre-ITNES should be the first generation. Period. There are only 10-20 NESers from that period still active anyway.

Why Itnes? that would put people like North King in the same generation as me and Anarchy-rulz which is stupid.
where in three generations currently but now where all together? I wasn't in RTOR2 and North King didn't join till after STJNES4 I think you just want to be in the first generation

Why have generations at all. Just list players with their start dates. Then insert the dates of of key events or innovations. That way people can find their place in relation to those events or other people. I might have a start date as a player then another as a mod. By getting rid if the "generation" label you simplify things and let people draw their own conclusions about seminal events.

Upon further thought, I think you have to decide exactly what you are trying to accomplish in all this. If your goal is to present information so that readers can draw their own conclusions, then one appraoch could be used. If your goal is to draw conclusions and post those for people to read that needs a different approach. After coffeee and breakfast, I will post more details.

In between cleaned-up-quintuple (!!!)-post craziness the original post got lost. Err, I meant to ask: what do you mean by conclusions, exactly? I would think the former approach would include a basic summation, so presumably you mean something other than that? If so, then what?

EDIT: EDIT: Okay, I am confused

"Generations"? Okay, let's get real here. What does a generation actually mean? In the real world, it's twenty years long, simply because that's about how long it takes for people born at the start of the last generation to start to come of age. Since we don't have people being born and dying on the NES forum, obviously we go with a different measure. The one that makes sense is by landmark games, but what we consider landmark games will change with more perspective.

I'd say that there still are some giants that had become classics by now; it's a bit difficult to dispute the positions of the first NES, RTOR 2 and stjNES4, and I don't see how that could change in the future, since those have often been referred to later on; it is the Iliad Effect, if you will. Others are more disputable, yes.
