While We Wait: Part 6

Lets see stJNES4 lasted well over one hundred updates, was a fresh start that made it to modern times (one of a few), helped introduce numerical armies (more so after Amon's nes attempt failed) and also introduced the concept of trade routes which ultimatley led down the road to dasian trade centres as seen in ITNES.

Not to mention on a personal note its perhaps still my all-time favourite.

That's why I would leave most of that information out. Keep it simple:

BirdNES 1: Birdjaguar; Feb 07; (15) 1500 AD; Historical;
BirdNES 2: Birdjaguar; Jan 08 (10) 2000 BC; Fresh start, imaginary earth; three cradles;
BirdNES 3: Birdjaguar; Feb 09; (??) 1485 AD; TBD

If people want to go into greater detail about a NES, then the Wiki should be tapped.
But that has nothing to do with the generational system, which is good, because I'm attacking them - generations - as useless. :p Question: where would this information be placed? I probably read it earlier in thread and forgot, so...
Hmm... Maybe generation AND genre (type, whatever)? i.e. the modern (need a better term here, ofcourse) generation of realistic cradle NESes and suchlike?
I still think that's kind of restrictive and doesn't really represent what's being played at any given time all that well, because a trend in a given genre would never be followed exactly by all NESes of that genre at that time all that well. But I suppose it's better than the current system of NESer generations, so: whatever.

What would be a better thing to use as a user title: Invincible or Gloriously Triumphant? (Aniketos and Kallinikos, respectively.)

What I'm curious is why everyone here seems to have a fetish for collecting, collating, and numbering random crap? Does it make you hot? To each his own I suppose.

We're all chinese, at heart.

I am partial to Aniketos, possibly because it is the root of a Russian last name whereas "Kallinikos" sounds like a target for juvenile humour; then again, Kallinikos is easier to back up than Aniketos if that user title is going to be used in anything with the possibility of winning or losing, even superfluously.

As it happened, Seleukos II Kallinikos was anything but, and his title was often a jeer; its association, sadly, has not been with particularly glorious or victorious. So Aniketos it remains.

Massive but vulgar lulz in this video.
...which has been removed due to a violation of the terms of use agreement? I suppose that's a little amusing. :p

Exactly my point; information only, let players group it as they see fit. I have no idea where this information would be kept unless it is on the Wiki or one of pinned threads here like the NESing guide.

Getting to the modern age is less impressive back then, spent alot less time in the early ages.

I don't dispute that it was a great NES. I dispute that it was an influential NES.

Numerical armies: stJNES5 went right back to levels. On the other hand, after das' NESes, practically no one except the extremely old-school used numbers anymore. As for trade centers, those don't have anything to do with trade centers. I know this because I introduced said trade centers in stNNES3, which was meant to replace routes as outmoded and inaccurate, not build on them.

Yes true, but regardless there was only two or three neses that accomplished it back then as well... Rtor2 was one, stjnes4 the other.... The next one is Kamilian's nes.

North King you are missing the point, when done the generations werent based on influential neses, they were based on memorable ones. Slight difference.

what? Stjnes5 didn't use levels

Memorable ones are the influential ones

The fact is why are we discussing or trying to change something which was agreed to over two years ago?!?

Because it's stupid?

I disagree, emu. Like I said, even though noone remembers my first NES, it was influential just in the fact that I had numbers right from the begining in a fresh start. Plenty of people IMed me after that NES to ask if I wouldn't mind if they used or added on to my system after that.

You mean th fun ones that lasted a long time? :mischief:

apparently in two years people change their minds about stuff. ;)

Oh, yes. Was thinking of something else. Point is, they were still unfortunately around when I arrived on the forum.

Memorable ones are the influential ones

Not always. There are some highly memorable NESes that were also extremely conservative.
