While We Wait: The Next Generation

With NESing in general, sure. I am merely talking about specific NESes that explicitly aim towards being "realistic"; in other cases realism would not be an issue in the first place, naturally.

If iggy has said LINESII is realistic then he is living in a crazy dream world.

das does your presence here imply that your exams are finished and certain tasks awaiting your hand can be done? :p

"Can do, but won't". :p And no, they are only beginning. The exams are the eas(ier) part for me, though, and I might find time to do stuff eventually. We'll see.

OK, so since I know no one reads the arrivals/departures thread (at least I don't), here's the deal: On Sunday or Monday I leave for a foreign country. As I am extremely paranoid and protective of my possessions (and moreover have minimal packing space), I'm not going to be bringing my laptop. Instead I will be shipping it home, most likely today. That means I'm not going on the forums from now until June 4th. Unfortunately there is a little unfinished business in my inbox, specifically the cities map for Thlayli's NES and orders for that and LINES II. I can't do much about the former in the limited time I have, so... um... I apologize to Thlayli for that and will work double time to get it done when I get home. As for the latter, I ask both mods to NPC me.
I can hold off on updating Kelios until later.

I do have the right to dream, don't I? ;)

At any rate, Thlayli's knowledge of Valin history is greater than any actual historian, of course. He noted this in a story, where one person questioned the existence of the first Autorex. Most Valins might have picked up on the ongoing thing about being repeatedly exiled from their homeland, which is defined as the lands around the island of Veritas, if they know exactly where that is. Historians generally can talk about events following the second exodus with some semblance of accuracy, and the Libraries of Unias have been intact for that long. However, before the second exodus, historical knowledge is limited to, essentially, the Great Nurmaferi War. The rest is murky at best, and often massively distorted mythology.

It's still referred to as the second exodus, even if most Valins don't know why. The first exodus was the story before the mythic founding of Veritas, when the Valins lost their mainland empire, and one group arrived on the island.

I'm just going to point to the fact that I HAVE an education stat to indicate that Valins retain some knowledge of their history. :p

And I'd say most Valins know about the First and Second Exiles...both are written in the Summa. Kal, if you really want to lead an exile, I wouldn't stop you. It's all the rage these days. :mischief:

Though what does an education stat really do? It would be nice if iggy could go into more specifics :)

I would just like to say, that I think there should be more posts like flyingchicken's from a couple of pages back. I think its beneficial to expand our collective consciousness like that.

Because we all know every Oneist in the world is a historian and story teller

Your right to smiley has officially been revoked; please cease or face the wrath of nothing. Anyways, you seem to have missed my point. There has never been on either my part or Thlayli's, that I can recall, a singular story teller. If I remember right, Thlayli has had a historian, but that's mostly stabilized on my bad memory. However, you fail to understand that before the common occurrences of widespread books and such, the main method of transmission of ideas was oral. Y'know, the passage from parent (or other stand in) to child. You don't have to be a masterful speaker to tell a child of a war that greatly defined their current situation.

And yeah, I'm late. What's new?

That I'd be fine with. But having pin-point accuracy about everything that happened in the past is just wrong.

As far as I know, we've been retconning everything as we go along. Well, I know I've been doing it.

Yeah, I'd say the First Exodus is quite important considering it's almost akin to a creation myth.

It's kinda hard to keep everything straight, but as far as I'm aware, the First Exile is more akin to the expulsion from Eden; the typical 'punishment for evil' scenario.

Finally, I declare avatar supremacy to the lot of you.

Well I guess that's pretty cool.

Edit: Anyways, whatever. I guess I don't really need to care about the Valins and their records. Currently the only countries I care about are Guangfei, Rozan, Trinlin, Destre, and Magland. Everyone else is filed under "Way Far Away".

:'(

In other news, I don't really remember what I was doing, so expect more nothing from Aryie.

I hereby declare cartoon facial recognition an occupational hazard when editing maps.

 I still love that.
