Anyone recruiting for a NES not set on earth?

ZPNESIV is set in the whole universe if that counts :)

So I figured it out, Symphony D. didn't really edit any posts. They were always how they are now. It is I who has changed.

Anima - a World of Wizards

Disclaimer: This is not a replacement of ljNES:yangotp. This is merely a posted idea.

The world and the gentle balance of the political system
Basically, the world of Anima is a world in which powerful and potent spellcasters reign with their mighty spells and wise knowledge. The political picture consists of several kingdoms scattered across the continents. Most of the countries are ruled by mage kings, who are elected in their national council of nobles. The countries are basically feudal European, with each kingdom having sincere issues with borders, lineage and power in regards to their respective neighbours. Usually, however, the unstable political scene is kept at ease through the Council of the Archmages - a council with the highest representative of each magical element, the Archmages, vote and rule - and with their immense powers, they seek to keep each local kingdom peaceful. This, of course, is not always obeyed by local countries, and conflict does still erupt from time to time, especially with disunity in the Council of the Archmages.

While arms and shields were important in our world, this world is left without armies - the reason being that the potency of a single mage usually outrules the training cost, actual strength and reliability of a small army. Mages are quite rare - usually the royal army of a mage king consists of four to ten mages, depending on the country size. Mages therefore are of enourmous importance in a nation. One thing that is important to understand is that a person with magical potential might be weaker than a trained warrior to begin with, but magical schooling empowers an individual so rapidly that training armies like in our world is laughable and expensive. The mages use magic from ten different elemental schools - Air, Blood, Darkness, Death, Earth, Energy, Fire, Light, Nature and Water - with each respective elemental school ruled by an Archmage. Through that, the Archmages attemp to control the mages of their schools, preserving peace as much as possible.

While the mage kings have interest in gaining power for themselves, they are usually elected by their local council of nobles; therefore, as mages of their schools, they are both somewhat obeying the Council of Archmages while attempting to please their council of nobles in order to remain in power. Conflict usually erupts between nations in regards to noble lineage and border tensions, resulting in the mage kings attempting to defend their nation as well as securing their position by grabbing additional provinces for the nobles. When the Archmages interfere, it is for the sole reason that they usually think the war is too unimportant to have the lives of their precious casters taken away. The other regular source of conflict lies within the Council of Archmages if hostility arises between two Archmages, then a global war usually triggers. Archmages are also elected by each noble council; each country has a vote for each element. It is custody to elect the most powerful mage Archmage in order to have him control his school. Each round of Archmage voting is executed every 10th year; same goes for the mage king elections (These happen five years after each Archmage election though); and peasant noobs are, of course, regularlycompletely ignored by the powerful mages and living in poverty.

The system is preserved through a simple payment of materials and food to the Council of Archmages by the local countries. Why this is benefitical for the Archmages might remain questionable; are they not able to summon the required goods themselves? And the answer is yes, but it is to note that in this world, the energy required to cast spells is hindering them to enjoy their conjurations.

The world is conjured by gods ages ago: Basically, there are two kinds of magical energy; mana and vara. Mana is the loose energy used to shape spells and generally cast anything, while vara is the energy shapen like material and stored in solid or organic objects; everything is technically magical. Vara is, though, usually difficult to use for spellcasting, as it requires breakdown of tissue. Even metabolism is technically a spell, using the body engine to keep one alive, and that's how the gods made it. What is important to understand is that each conjuration of mana energy into vara energy requires the exact same amount of energy to succeed; therefore in order to summon a flower, a mage has to use that amount of energy in mana. In order to regenerate that mana, if the mage does not want his tissue to deteoriate, he must eat or drink in order to use that vara for mana, instead of his own vara. So, the Archmages have interest in taxated goods since if living on an empty stomach, they will spend their own vara to regenerate their mana; and in the end break down their own tissue. Of course the means are considered technicalities by rogue mages, but these are usually hunted down and killed by the many mages wanting the healthy system to be preserved.

NES Technicalities
What is initially notable when compared to other NESes is that this NES lacks armies themselves; instead, players use a ridiculous low number of hero-like, powerful entities, the mages. It should be noted, though, that simply putting money up a person's butt doesn't educate him that well; therefore conversion from EP into armies is technically unrealistic. Here, however, a healthy economy is needed in order to keep the country stable - especially with a grumpy Archmage not getting his personal watermelon fix - therefore, in order to gain the most support from an Archmage, one must give him the best goods through the highest taxes in the wealthiest economy. Raising armies usually happens passively, with a potent mage showing up in a province once in a while; more usual in crowded cities of course. this is usually a benefit for larger countries, since it therefore happens more usual in a nation with a higher population. So, landgrabbing is still rational, and investing in stuff having your population rise gives you more mages.

Another thing that stings the eye is the magical elements, Air, Blood, Darkness, Death, Earth, Energy, Fire, Light, Nature and Water - each element not elaborated now since it's technically flavor - which is dominated by their respective Archmages, and their mages. And the nations are ruled by mage kings. That means that the army is consisting of several alignments, and your king has allies depending of his affinity. Having an army with three Water mages, one Fire-Water mage, and a Fire mage king might cause trouble if the Water and Fire Archmages declared war upon each other. Having two elements isn't that bad an idea still, since you have the chance of gaining support from two Archmages during a conflict. Each element does, though, have two natural allies; with the allies being next to each other, the list reads Water, Nature, Earth, Death, Blood, Darkness, Light, Fire, Energy, Air and Water. While the traditional alliances aren't always followed, they're normally preferred before other 'friends'.

So, in conclusion, this would probably be a diplomatic war mayhem. :p I've tried to set up some draft stats for a country:

Nation Name/Player
Ruler: Ruler's name
Rating: Here is the Council of Archmages' favorings nicely written down for your pleasure
Economy: Here is the economical strength of the nation/Here is the amount given to the Archmages
Population: The population rated in numbers
Mages
Mage Name/Level/Elements
(Current Health if damaged)Health Rating/Loyalty/Power
Background: Some additional info about the nation if any

Written out as the below. Oh yes, and Archmage rating varies from -10 to +10:

Kingdom of Hightower/lord_joakim
Ruler: Baruqei
Rating: Fire +2, Darkness +3, Light+4
Economy: 5/2
Population: 6
Mages
Baruqei/Lvl6/Light
(4)6H/+5L/1P
Assum Litu/Lvl3/Light-Darkness
2H/+3L/2P
Curyx/Lvl2/Fire-Darkness
1H/+4L/2P
Background: The Kingdom of Hightower is located in the Runerl Mountains with the castle Hightower as its capital - it being renowned for a great pillar standing in the centre. Baruqei was born in Hightower and is one of the best priests on the continent, using prominent shielding to protect himself from harm. Assum Litu uses the might of balanced elements in order to smite his opponents, using bolts of mixed darkness and light. Curyx uses black fire in order to blind his opponents while igniting an inferno, leading to their deaths.

Mage stats explanations
Mage Name: You know...
Level: The current level of the Mage. Each time he or she levels, he would gain 1 point to invest in either Power or Health Rating.
Elements: The elemental schools of the mage. Influences his loyalty to the mage king as well of his choices of sides in the Council of Archmages.
Health Rating: The healthiness of the mage. The mage usually dies when his health becomes 0. The Health Rating starts out at 1 in Lvl1.
Loyalty: The trust and loyalty he has in your country. Varies from -10 to +10.
Power: The might of the mage, and his ability to kill off other mages. Starts out at 1 in Lvl1.

And now awaiting the comments. :)

EDIT: What the hell am I doing. This should've gone in the Dev&Ideas thread. >_>

Moderator Action: Would you like me to move it?

That sounds fun germanicus and Lord Iggy :)

Are there any WW II neses like A Brave New World coming out soon?

Holy hell that idea sounds amazing, Joakim.

Are you actively recruiting or just pitching an idea?

Yup, just tossing out. I make out RPG rules per random in private from time to time. This was merely turned into a NES ;D

Huh, well that's a pity. Just know you have one definite player should you decide to go forth with it. >.>

Awesomesauce in a can! That's what NDNES III was.

Of course, as long as it's inactive, it's technically good for Vode, so, you know, in character I can't support the continuation of NDNES III, but OOC I'd love to write more stories in a resumption.

lj, you've Warcraft 3'd NESing! :wow:

I just felt like randomly looking up the total post numbers of two mods' NESes whose names start with D.:)

13967 + 31334 = 45301
Thats slightly over 10 percent of all posts on this sub forum.
