Also, I got a job as Lead Writer for a startup video-game company. :D

Just saw this - congrats thomas, that's awesome :) I believe I was reading about your upcoming MMO via a random facebook link - alternate history MMO!?

So has anyone else here seen Legend of Galactic Heroes? I'm a bit surprised it took me this long to get around to it. It seems like it would appeal to quite a lot of people here.

A Monarchist Galactic Empire vs Free Planets Alliance - Totally Not Star Wars :) Looks interesting though.

Think Dune without psychic powers, or Star Wars without the Force or aliens and with a completely different kind of philosophical bend. :p

You in particular should watch it, Thlayli. One of the characters there makes me think of the sort of thing you'd write. :p And yes, it is surprisingly even-handed with regards to the main conflict. Some of the secondary factions are rather less evenly done, to say the least, but the main two (and the attention is split about equally between them) are treated surprisingly well.

Maybe you are an unproved NESer and no one really trusts you in pulling it off? Ya'know, generally previews and such are first WWW and NN'd to gain initial hype and interested, preNES'd for addition hype and interest, and then NES'd to use that hype and interest to help push through the first couple of turns in hopes that it can establish an atmosphere and stability for the future.

I would like to join as an enterpeneur or as a merchant/buisness man but I feared that it would be ridiculous for such a person to join a new colony and I don't have any other idea on what to join as.Engineer maybe?Missionary?Am I even allowed to post these things here or play as these in your NES? :p

Tsoate, you should talk to bombshoo for advice about your proposed NES- he recently ran a NES with a similar theme, with the players being the colonists in a Hannoverian colony on a fictional island off the coast of Virginia.

I had a quick scan of it. I can't promise to write updates of that length, but it was very impressive what people put together. Five or six of you were pumping out great stories. All I can ask is that you give it a roll of the dice, another go, like so many NESers before. Maybe, just maybe this will be the NES that outlasts 5 updates ;) If you don't have the time or inclination, with your blessing, I would love to pull your families as some of the NPC's ?

Well, to be fair, you have a radically different colony than Krahesteg -- for one thing, it's English. :p

Anyone here willnig to help me co-GM my NES.
I thought it would be easy but it's really too much for me. Took me 6 hours to compile the to-do list....

We haven't got there yet. An I am sure even in the 17th Century, Liverpool didn't have exclusively English citizens. It will be different sure, but I am sure a few details can cross the divide.

Just keep up with it. Some games get a whole lot of people from the get-go, and some games have a lot of flys on the wall. When you update a few times and show you are/can be dedicated to a game, I'm sure more people will join in. When you're a new moderator, or an older one with a questionable track record (like me, and many others) people are hesitant to commit their time, energy, due to fear of a premature NES death. Players often times become emotionally involved with their factions/characters/nations, which can make it even worse.

TL;DR, Just keep with it, and show everyone you're not only serious, but running a fun game. If you build it, they will come.

The death of that NES hit me harder than most; I dunno that I can do another one like it for a while.
I'm still in mourning.

Well i've give it a few more days and then press ahead, hopefully I can give you mourners some light entertainment and a distraction once you see the NES take shape?

I know the thread may seem light on the ground, but I want it to be an adventure into the unknown, so really, I can't add much without showing my hand. I don't even want to say that there are things to reveal at all, that is half the surprise gone!
