White lines in graphics / smear on resources

Hello, I did what The J said... went to Intel and was going to update my drivers but another tool for Windows 7 said that I had the current driver...

Product Detected

Mobile Intel® 4 Series Express Chipset Family

Current Driver Installed 8.15.10.2086

A customized computer manufacturer driver is installed on your computer. The Intel Driver Update Utility is not able to update the driver. Installing a generic Intel driver instead of the customized computer manufacturer driver may cause technical issues. Contact your computer manufacturer for the latest driver for your computer.
the latest driver.

When I ran the Update Driver from the properties, it said "The best driver software for your divice is installed".

I am running a Compaq CQ 56 notebook PC with an Intell Celeron CPU 900 @ 2.2 Ghz with 4GB ram on a 64 bit operating system.

I tried the game again, and still have the lines... does my computer have enough of the right stuff? Christmas is around the corner... maybe a six core is in store... lol.

ronjba... I'm with you on this one... I also cannot update my GRAPHICS like The J did. I get into my files and it isn't the same as The J posted. Then, I get cold feet and get the hell out of there... I also tried to DELETE Civ 5 and re-intall it.. I still get what you have. My son suggested to use Windows Recovery to go back to a time before I downloaded the Mod... I'll let you know!

I am here to report that the Civ Nights Mod has ruined my Civ 5 game! I did a system restore, which, does not effect documents, which is where I believe this little devil is hiding, so, the restore didn't help. When I go to play Civ 5, my games are ruined by streaking. I am not sure what to do because is the Mod in Steam? Or is the Mod in my computer?
Sounds like Santa needs to bring me a more powerful computer for Christmas... I NEVER thought Civ would COST so much to play!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Could I see your DXDIAG?

I have the same driver as this:

Mobile Intel® 4 Series Express Chipset Family

I downloaded/rather got the automatic update for this driver.

Fine except the latest update 15.17.18.64.2555 (8.15.10.2555) for my driver was an October 2011 upgrade.

I kept getting confused about reference to august 2012 and october 2012 upgrades, which is correct for other drivers but atm not for the above.

Maybe it can't be tweaked any further, or maybe there are also other factors.

Could I see your DXDIAG?

IF there is anything that you see that could help me get my Civ 5 game back to normal, please tell me!! Does the corruption from from STEAM or my PC?? How would I get my Civ 5 game BACK to normal -- I will DELETE the MOD if possible...
Spoiler :

IF there is anything that you see that could help me get my Civ 5 game back to normal, please tell me!! Does the corruption from from STEAM or my PC?? How would I get my Civ 5 game BACK to normal -- I will DELETE the MOD if possible...

Not the fault of the mod, it's a problem with the combination of your outdated graphics card driver and the latest patch.
Please try to update the driver, if that's possible for you.

How did you deduce that fact that my graphics card SUDDENLY is outdated after I install the MOD? Three days ago, I was running Civ 5 just fine... :)

I think it is a bad MOD, er, poorly written, and we are supposed to spend $1,500 for a new machine to cover up that fact to run a $30 game...

Nothing like being between a rock and a hard place.

It has been outdated for 3 years ;), but the problem comes with the optimizations in the new patch, which was released 3 days ago ;).
Update the drivers, and if that works, then the problem is gone.

And like said: The mod has absolutely nothing to do with it. The patch has.

I have done exactly as you said, and my son agrees with you, it's the patch, not the MOD. He has a newer laptop and is running the new Fall Patch with no problems. So, I am thinking not to update my old 3 year old computer and go with a new laptop and play Civ until the cows come home... and quit steaking!

I appreciate your help. :goodjob:

Thanks fo your help J

Tried the recommended procedure after updating the driver. Unfortunately no success. As there is a long thread about this on Steam too, I only hope Firaxis will get onto the case and sort it with another patch. Not exactly holding my breath though!!

Try the following steps - solves most graphical bugs.

1) Delete your CIV V cache folder, (it rebuilds itself, don't worry).
2) Delete the contents of your CIV V ModUserData folder.
3) Manually delete all mods in your MODS folder.
4) Verify the integrity of your cache through Steam.

Good news - while fiddling around I accidentally started a game using DX9 (was using DX11 before). Pleasently suprised all the video resource issues have diasppeared. There is a slight issue in the city citizen management screen when allocating tiles - where the AI has allocated a tile to work the "head" is does not take up the entire circle, where the AI hasn't allocated work the barbarian symbol appears, and where you allocate work the locked symbol doesn't appear and the circle remains blank. I must admit I did have this issue before the patch and it was the reason I upgraded to DX11. It is only a minor issue and I can live with it, it is better than the alternative. Having said that if any body can suggest any fixes.....

I was on steam checking comments and feedback on update. Saw this reply from 2K

We are aware of issues that have arisen since the recent patch to Civilization V. Our development team is working diligently to get these addressed as quickly as possible.

•Make sure all drivers are up to date for your PC, specifically your graphics card drivers. Running the game on old graphics card drivers can cause a wide variety of problems.

•Make sure you have the most recent version of DirectX installed.

•Delete the files in the following folder: \My Documents\My Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 5\cache\. As well as config.ini, GraphicsSettingsDX9.ini and GraphicsSettingsDX11.ini in \My Documents\My Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 5\

•Right click on the game in Steam, select properties, select local files, and select “Verify Integrity of Game Cache…”

•While troubleshooting, try disabling any mods that are currently active; especially after the patch, some more intensive mods that haven’t caught up to the updates may cause issues for general gameplay.

I had seen comments before that the cache delete suggestion didn't work, but what I was showing was 2K was taking this problem seriously. It may take a while.
