Who have never played Colonization?

Played it when it first came out and Will play it again. Still have the original game on my hard drive. Sid is The GAME GOD!!!:)

Ha ha !
I've played all the civ and colonization. I'm an old player (36 y.o). My first computer was a ZX 81, then an Amstrad CPC 464 .... then my fist real PC (a powerful pentium 100) . Now, i have a real beast of war to play Civ4 without problem !!!

Colonization was a great game. I wait for new version..... I hope this one will be as good as the old one.

Well, im only 13, so I reckon i could be excused:rolleyes:

but, I have been a civ fan since 2002, and my world was really expanded when i got the internet in 2006. Ive always searched for a mod that would fit (good) colinization down 2 a T. I got close, but the mod didnt work:cry:!

Colinization will b gr8 when it comes out, but will b much better with modders. I also hear that firaxis hires a lot of fan modders, so its an incentive. Ive never modded, but hope 2 in future, this may inspire me. ALL MODDERS 2 COLINIZATION!

I'm rather young, but I still play it - though I would have been seven when it first came out, so maybe I didn't play it from the start!

In fact I only stumbled upon the fact that this new version was coming out by pure accident, on about the fifth page of a Google search! (I was looking for the music from the original)

I used to play Col all the time. It had a nice easy going feeling to it with the micromanaging of resources.. I love Civ but sometimes I get stressed during a big game,, Col was a nice stress reliever for me

I remember waiting Colonization almost more than any other game that has been ever published.

And it didn't let me down. It's one of the few games that have made almost get lost to a computer game for whole day and beyond.

Example for myself Civilization never has come close in the addiction rating compared to Colonization. It was off the chart.

It's also one game that I have returned again and again to play after few years.

I just downloaded freecol and I was really suprised. For an old game with horrible graphics and no music, the game was addicting. I really want the new version now.

I did just tested it, same with Civ I, can't say that I played either of them for real. Civ II was my real start into civilization and beyond! I guess I was a bit too young to like Col, my english wasn't so good back then, I was after all just 9ish and just started to learn english in school. The Civ games and games like them are pretty hard to learn if you don't understand any messagesboxes or anything :)
(I am swedish but live in US for a year now)

I played Colonization a little bit before I played Civilization II.

Meh.

Never played it, but heard about it when I bought Alpha Centauri.. I started my Civ experiences out with Civilization III, so I never really got a chance to play Colonization..

I'm definitely looking forward to it! :goodjob:

Interesting. I thought everybody had played Colonization. Of course it did originally come out for DOS in 1994 with the Windows 95 version being released the following year, and that was quite awhile ago. Some of you might not even have been born yet. ;)

Not only did I purchase and play the original DOS version of Colonization, but later on I bought the Windows 95 version and it is the Windows 95 version I have on my PC right now. I boot it up from time to time and I am happy to report it runs quite well under Windows Vista.

Colonization gave me many, many hours of enjoyment. I hope the upcoming version will do the same.

How do I tell what version it is? Will it be on the CD? I'd lent it out to a friend, but if it works on Vista I want it back... :)

I play Colonization regularly yet.

My Colonization CD does not indicate that it is for Windows 95. It does on the insert in the jewel case though.

And my DOS version of Colonization is on 3.5" floppies.

If you are still playing Colonization, I would hazard a guess that your copy is the Windows 95 version. That's what I'm running under Windows Vista. I don't think it would run otherwise without the use of DOSBox.

Oh, that's what I was checking about. My cousin is not PC-friendly and borrowed it to play but couldn't get it to work. I suggested DOSbox but he didn't even want to try it. I was hoping it was compatible without dosbox.

Back when I was playing Civ 1 I had and Amiga and I don't remember seeing Colonisation for it. When I got a PC I remeber seeing it as budget title butdidn't bother with it as I was stilling playing Civ 1 / starting to play Civ II.

There was Amiga version. I played it lot, and I still have it (and I still have my A1200)

I'd never played it before PCGamer Sept. 08. (Civ 3, Railroads! Civ 4, Civ2, Colonization, Civ1, Gettysburg!.) I've enjoyed every one.
