Who is using Trump?

I would vote for Hillary but I do not understand this scaremongering. Career military and bureacrats want everything than "preparing for war and all human rights concerns be damned". Its their duty not a desire.

Meh. I've run a lot into the sentiment that people who vote for Democrats are just voting themselves free stuff, and therefore that their votes are less legitimate than the votes of the Real Americans(tm) in the heartland who work hard and contribute and built this country only to have it stolen from them by the dusky races. This is a view that isn't just common among the Breitbart faithful, either - you get shades of it whenever people defend the electoral college.
it is hard not to defend the electoral college if you hold the constitution dear after all its a federalist system and its not really the peoples vote but the states vote that elects the president
and yes I find the whole system dumb from an outsiders point of view
do the houses have reps and senators based on population thus giving some states more votes or are they based on states quotas too
I'm never sure about exactly how the US system works
and the site electoral college for dummies did not help much

But if that is the position you are taking, then why apportion electors on the basis of proportion of national population? All states in the union are equal, but some are more equal than others??

The two houses of congress are different, to provide a balance. The House of Representatives is apportioned based on population, such that every representative represents approximately the same number of citizens. The Senate is apportioned such that every state receives equal representation; two senators. The electoral college gives every state the same number of electors as their combined representation in congress, so the smaller states get disproportionate representation because of how the senate is apportioned, but not the equal representation that they get in the senate.

Did that help?

its not a position I am taking but my understanding is it is about protecting states rights and as the constitution sets it out it then becomes a matter for is one 'for' the constitution
mystifying for outsiders as we have a senate that represents the states but the lower house (Representatives) forms government and their the popular vote counts and they appoint our head of state something your founders deliberately tried to avoid it seems
all in the context of ''you get shades of it whenever people defend the electoral college."

Protecting rural interests makes sense as a valid argument. Falling back on a position of "it's the states that elect the president, not the people," does not.
