The problem with Conan (and Letterman before him) is that they were perfect for their original NBC slots following the Tonight show, but had to dial down the humor too much to take the first late night time slot. Letterman was much better at NBC and Conan was much better in his old time slot. Leno is a jerk and should be ignored, but he will get an audience from those that like his lukewarm act.

I think you're exactly right. I really enjoyed Conan's old show, but this new program is much less funny. The best case scenario is for for him to go to another network (like say, Comedy Central), go on a later time slot, and continue his quirky, smarter humor, and let Leno be king of the morons.

Perhaps he can trade with Letterman, who was much funnier and controversial when he had his daytime program.

I grew up watching Conan. One of the endearing qualities was the self-deprecating nature of his show. Anytime a joke bombed or there was a stupid sketch, and there were plenty, it's more funny to see his reaction. Conan O'Brien certainly hits some wrong notes in his comedy, but the thing is he is not afraid to hit those flat notes.
He always seems like he is having a great time and it's obvious he loves his job. I hope that he can get another show where he doesn't have to be reigned in as much.

Conan is getting screwed but not by Leno but rather the management of NBC, and just for the record Leno is funnier then Conan.

I agree Conan's humor suffered a bit from having to be toned down, but I think if they gave him a chance to create his own identity with the show he'd get back to his old self. Every host has a settling in period when they go on a new show I think.

I watched Conan a few times about 20 years ago, never really liked him except when he had the posters with lip-holes that people said crazy stuff from (especially the "yee-haw").

Conan statement:

So Conan isn't willing to screw over Fallon just because he is being screwed over.
This is why I like Conan. Because aside from being funnier, when I watched his interviews and saw him in person, he genuinely seemed like a great guy. It didn't feel like he was doing a schtick for television.

No love for Craig Ferguson, sad.

I really like Conan - I hope what ever happens, the show is not on at an ungodly hour.

....

DVR is just not the same.

I have to agree with you on both points; from what I've seen, Letterman's show was far better when he was on NBC. One great bit I saw was when GE took over NBC and he went and tried to deliver a fruit basket to the execs there.
