I still have no idea about getting the new civilization yet. I have followed civilization series since civilization 4 or way before that since civilization in micropose. I skipped civilization 3 and SMAC since civilization 4 came out when I finally wanted to get civilization 3. I play bnw most of the time now. I wanted to get the xcom squad for the cell phone but it was only for the iPhone, which I didn't have.

Am I literally the only one who loves 1 upt??

Here at CivFanatics, I have seen an immense amount of support for 1upt. If anything, hostility is directed towards individuals who are opposed to that game feature.

Personally, I think 1upt is a good idea. However, I wonder if the strategic map is too small to effectively use 1upt

As long as I intend to spend 10+ hours in a game, it's worth full AAA price for me. Will buy it on release date unless pre-ordering brings something extra like beta/early access.

I can almost guarantee all the bloatware that comes with a Sony VAIO has much more of a significant impact on overall performance compared to running Steam. Go to add/remove programs and see if you can chop away at the useless stuff they load if you'd feel comfortable with that.

Thanks, but I did that in 2007...November-ish...probably closer to 2008-ish, tbh.
-

At this point I am very hyped for it! Will pre-order it asap, but at least with greenman discount.

Really? I have seen nothing but hate. I'm going to find out. :)
Look here for ongoing results. :)

I don't know jack squat about SMAC (I've heard of it, but never played it) and I'm not a huge fan of the Sci-Fi genre. But, the more I read about CBE, the more interesting it sounds. I'll definitely wait to see if there's one of those free trial thingies (there's a term here that's completely escaping me right now) before I decide whether I want to purchase the game or not.

I am soo on the hype train for this. Not sure if I'm on the pre-order train, but we'll see.

@KevinLancaster

I just saw that video, a whole bunch of red flags went up for me.

For starters it seemed like they weren't interested at making a solid game, but in scifi/philosophy. "You can either embrace the new world, embrace machinery or try to stay like old earth". I assume this is the assymmetry that they're going to somehow balance.

In other words, native americans are going to be competitive against cyborg armies. Which isn't going to make any sense. I'm calling it right now, they are not going to achieve asymmetric balance at all. The tech web instead of a tech tree makes this almost a certainty.

You can tell just from the interview that these guys aren't hardcore gamers, and this is mostly a sci-fi wet dream and not a heavy strategy game. As was already mentioned, the give-away for this is when one of the lead designers says Civ Rev is the best civ game.... and he actually says it's because of Sid Meier's personal involvement somehow...... oh brother.

The two are not mutually exclusive, so indications of one do not lead to a conclusion of lack of the other.

After Civ 5 I'm not going to buy it right after it's released. I certainly won't pre-order it, I did that with the latest simcity, first and last time I did that.

I don't think that's really a correct interpretation of what the developers have said. The analogy would be correct but for the fact that these native Americans will apparently be genetically modified super-soldiers, or highly adapted to the environment, such that they can be a match for machines. Although I imagine balancing these divergent paths will present some difficulties, your description of it makes it sound an impossible task bound to have illogical results, when it's really not.

I also don't think a focus on the conceptual aspects of the game in the context of introducing the game to potential customers indicates anything about how much they embrace 'making a solid game'.

This, and the interviewer didn't seem to ask any very in-depth questions either, so they were just giving a general overview.

I understand the problem they were trying to solve but they took a sledgehammer to crack a nut, crazy stacks were an issue so they make it you can't even escort Settlers and Workers??? Yes the map is far too small for 1 UPT, on a standard sized map Great Britain is about 6 tiles!! Also they had to nerf Production to make it fit in with with 1 UPT, all in all it's been a disaster and I hope they think again for Civ 6.

Yeah, it's important to remember that 1upt isn't an entirely accurate description. All tiles (apart from ice, I guess; even mountains can have more than one unit given particular circumstances) can have multiple units. It's just that you can't have two of the same unit type, with 'type' being defined broadly. If you narrowed it so that you could have one of each specific unit (e.g. horse archer), then that would essentially be the same rule, just with more unit types.

I believe the word you are looking for is demo. :) that actually is a good point.

I was getting interested until I saw this:

www.pcgamer.com/2014/04/12/civiliza...-the-new-factions-aliens-technology-and-more/

This is one of the absolute worst statements you could make about a game you are developing. I'll wait and see how it actually turns out, but way to kill any hope right off the freaking bat.

CivRev is the weakest title in the series by miles, this statement in no way reassures me that Will is competent enough to be a lead designer.

Well, I am not buying this one, I was fooled with Civ V, and bought it on release. More streamlined than Civ V... :deadhorse:

Why don't they relase CivGolf, and enjoy the success. :suicide:
